DuPage Travelers : Welcome

Sam Ainsworth to play basketball for Coach Ray Shovlain at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA (Quad Cities)

St. Ambrose Basketball Media Day 2012-13

Freshman Finance & Pre-Law major Sam Ainsworth #32/33 chats with Media prior to opening day.  The former Fenwick Friar is ready to "do what it takes" to help his team win - in the classroom, on the court & in the community.  After meticulous preparation this past summer, the opportunity to step in for two time NAIA All-American Mike Kennedy (Brother Rice, Chicago) and MCC All-Confernce performer Chris Donnelly (Peoria Notre Dame) will be no easy task!

Stay tuned for more Live Action from #32/33 (Magic-Bird old school combo) and the rest of the Fightin' Bees...

Fenwick Football in the hunt for 2nd consecutive Chicago Prep Bowl Title...

The Friars will make history if they can "turn up the heat & circle the wagons" as they make a run at their second consecutive Prep Bowl bid in as many years.

DuPage Traveler alum senior Sam Ainsworth (6-5, 215lbs) was nominated for first team All-Conference after playing TE/WR (Y receiver) & DE/OLB for the Friars during the 2011 season.

DuPage Traveler alum captures Prep Bowl Championship - Fenwick Football's Sam Ainsworth & the entire Friar Nation capture 2010 Chicago Prep Bowl Ring...

Former DuPage Traveler alum Sam Ainsworth (#85), Fenwick Football & the entire Friar Nation  captured the 2010 Chicago Prep Bowl Championship in bitter cold at Soldier Field.  The Friar Defense rose to the occasion by holding a talented & athletic Curie HS team down 6-0.  At 6-4/195lbs, Sam played Quarterback, Tight-end, Outside Linebacker & Defensive end throughout the season.  Each player will receive the highly-prized Prep Bowl ring, only the fourth Prep Bowl Championship in the storied, 81 year history of Fenwick's rich, athletic tradition.

A little "Divine Intervention" helped game MVP Ricky Sorrentino, whose father passed away within the past year, take an interception back to 'Da House' for the game's only score.  Congrats & God Bless to Ricky and his entire family.

A special shout-out to our friend Coach Chris Andriano and the entire Montini Football program for their second, consectutive Illinois State Football Championship - great job by former Elmhurst Eagle players Frank Baer & Ryan Maher and former Elmhurst Airborne/DuPage Traveler AAU Hoops player Asante McKinley.

Congratulations to former DuPage Traveler & current Fenwick football player Sam Ainsworth for his gutsy performance at Soldier Field Prep Bowl...

Congratulations to Fenwick football player Sam "Sunshine" Ainsworth (aka Otto Graham) for his gutsy performance at Soldier Field pre-season 2010 Prep Bowl.  This one woke up a few Fenwick "football ghosts" from days gone by - no doubt Otto Graham would be proud too!

Also, best wishes to former DuPage Traveler Baseball/Softball & AAU Basketball alums for their fine high school football/cheerleading performances this season, as follows:

John "Worley-Bird" Worley (York), Jimmy "Baggy Britches" Blodgett (Hinsdale Central), Nick "Scoots" Skuteris (York), Jake "the Snake" Rzeszutko (York), Asante "Ben Wallace" McKinley (Montini), Sean "the Leg" McDaid (York), Arturo "Arty" Martinez, Matt "Marsty" Marston (Glenbard West), Mike "Marsty" Marston (Glenbard West), Johnny "the ghost" Caspers (Glenbard West), Mike "Sumo" Sumang (Willowbrook), Kailie "Super" Starr (York) & Angela "lil Scals" Scalzitti.

Also, special mention to Frank "Fumblerooski" Baer (Montini) - who could forget the Elmhurst Eagles' version of the center sneak in the 2003 Spartan Bowl vs. Glendale Heights; eat your heart out Coach Tom Osborne & the entire Nebraska CornHusker nation!

Former Elmhurst Eagle alum & current Fenwick football player Niall Mulcahy also named an All-Conference selection in the rough & tumble Chicago Catholic League Blue division; possibly heading to Washington U in St. Louis, MO - congratulations Niall on a fantastic season - stay healthy my friend!!!

Update:  Mulcahy picks Illinois Wesleyan for school & football; current roommate is fellow Elmhurst native & DT alum John "Worleybird" Worley.

Lady Tavelers headed to High School - club wraps final season with heartfelt goodbyes & well wishes for our friends...

The Lady Travelers wrapped the final season for the DuPage Travelers club after almost six (6) years of fellowship, camaraderie & competition.  Most of the girls will be heading to local High Schools, including York, IC & Nazareth.  A few of the girls will continue to play club softball during their 8th grade year.

Congratualtions to our girls & families during the past 2 seasons - I believe we learned how to be competitive while still having a bunch of fun!

Thanks also to all our friends & supporters, especially Hillside LL Baseball & the Village of Hillside.  Special thanks to Jeff Collins, Umpire Tim Bruns, the Watson Family & Ms. Carol Bibly.

I will continue to keep everyone in my daily thoughts & prayers!

God's Speed,

Coach Bill & family

The entire DuPage Travelers program sadly mourns the untimely passing of our cousin, James Patrick Wernke, 21, of Fullerton (Orange County), CA. James was a fantastic student-athlete and even better person. He attended Troy High School in Fullerton and was drafted to play professional baseball by the Oakland A's (Pitcher). James instead attended Santa Ana College where he pursued his degree in nursing while playing college baseball. Recently, he had accepted a scholarship to Cal State Long Beach to play baseball while finishing his nursing studies.

James is survived by loving family members, grandparents, teammates and many friends.

The memorial service for James was a tribute to everything baseball. No doubt James has gone to the Big Dance and joined the other Wernkes - all of whom are jokers!

We are pleased to announce James Patrick Wernke as the second member to join our Hall of Fame. It is true and can be said that James best embodied a saying by his Uncle Leonard, "You are your brother's keeper..."

7-20-09 Lady Travelers wrap-up great season with 4th place finish at Splash Tourney

The Lady Travelers finished their highly successful season in dramatic fashion with a hard-fought 4th place finish at the North Suburban Slammers Splash Tourney in Skokie, IL. Although the unseasonably cool weather did not allow for much splash time, the Lady Travelers were hot coming out of pool play as the undefeated #3 seed. The next two games were among the most exciting in club history. The girls advanced to the semi-finals with a walk-off win over Evanston Express only to fall to the tourney host Slammers by 1 run in extra innings (International Tie-breaker). Congratulations to our girls, families, fans & sponsors! See you next year...

Peace out,

Coach Bill

The Lady Travelers recently emerged as the #4 seed only to fall short in the Quarter-final round at the recent Wheaton Red, White & Blue NSA 'B' national qualifier - nice job girls on a job well done! 6-15-09 Lady Travelers scratch to 4th place finish at Highland Park Summer Tourney!

The Lady Travelers recently battled fatigue and warm weather as they fought back to play for the Consolation Championship at the recent Highland Park Summer Tourney. The Dupage Lady Travelers are set to start their Inaugural 2009 Seaon at a pair of Round Robins in Tinley Park, IL. The girls have been working hard and are "amped" to get it started! Best of luck to all opposing players, coaches & teams this year.

We are proud to announce our new membership with ASA/USA Softball (Chicago Metro).
Special thanks to professional pitching instructor Coach Karen Bihun and her husband Nick (Elk Grove Village, IL) for their help during Indoor Training.

Finally, we also dedicate this season to the Financial Recovery of our country (USA)!

Meet you at the diamond,

Coaches Bill, Rich & Scott

Today is a sad day for the Chicagoland Sports Community as we mourn the passing of Mr. Bud Hildebrand, owner of Hildebrand Sporting Goods in Broadview, IL for over 50 years. Mr. Hildebrand was 90 years young and is survived by many loving family members and friends. Hildebrand's was always a destination & safe haven for many kids growing up in the area over all the years. Mr. Hildebrand loved all sports but his passion was baseball, especially the Chicago White Sox!

The Travelers are pleased to announce Mr. Hildebrand as the first person selected for our Hall of Fame - his ideals were Faith, Family & Passion for Life!

Our inaugural '09 Fastpitch Softball season will be dedicated to his memory.

"Mr. H., you will be dearly missed..."
