Wednesday, June 8 Glory Days Continue Dungannon achieved a remarkable 2011 treble early in Term Two by taking out the Cross Country Championship by a comfortable margin. A significant number of yellow tops flashed across the line in the top twenty of all three races. This complemented our victories in Swimming & Athletics. In the Seniors, a fast finishing Casey Walker managed to overtake a tiring Rupinder Sandhu to complete a one-two for Dungannon. The Intermediates had the Rew twins working solidly throughout their race, with Tim finishing 3rd & Will 4th to boost our points significantly. Another one-two in the Juniors left us looking very difficult to overhaul in the points race. Jaspinder Sandhu finished first & Douglas Lloyd had his third championship placing for the year, coming in 2nd. Douglas was the only person in the school to place in the top 3 in all three majors, Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country.
Term One 2011 To our surprise and delight, Term One has continued to provide the same success in inter-house events as we managed last year. Dungannon's sporting prowess first shone through with the winning of the House Swimming Championships, followed closely by the same success in the House Athletics Championships. Kennedy Miller won the title of Senior Swimming Champion, with Owen Anslow 2nd. In the Junior section, Douglas Lloyd was 3rd in the championship. Our athletics success came about because of strong individual performances across the board, although Douglas Lloyd again placed, coming 2nd in the Junior championship. We have now made it 3 out of 3, adding the House Cricket title to our collection for 2011 - thrashing Armagh by 1 run. The House Music Competition was the only blemish on our record in Term One, an event we won last year. The boys improved markedly in rehearsals, guided by hard-working seniors Owen Anslow & Clark Tipene, but things just didn't go right on the night. Heads of House 2011 After voting, Mark Werpachowski was elected a very popular Head of House for 2011. With two able deputies in Owen Anslow and Kaveinga Finau, and a responsible, energetic team of House Prefects, it should be a good year ahead. CockHouse at Last! It has been a long time between drinks, but in 2010 Dungannon House has finally won the trophy for the top combined sports & academic House. With a very consistent performance throughout the year, we finished either first or second in every event. The boys were delighted to get their hands on the trophy and fully appreciated the trip to Waiwera which was put on and run by the Old Boys.
It was a sad but happy night on Tuesday 20th July, when the boys held a BBQ to farewell departing overseas tutor Mr Richard (Rico) Williams. Along with the feast, there were speeches, presentations and a huge haka to show appreciation for Mr Williams' contribution to Dungannon over the past year. Mr Williams presented the House with his own framed 1st XV jersey, seen in the photo above with Head of House, Rupinder Sandhu. Term 2 2010 Major events for Term 2 were the Cross Country, Les Miserables, the Junior Speech Finals and the School Ball. The boys did well in the Cross Country, finishing second overall & staying in contention for Cockhouse. The school show was a huge success, with many Dungannon boys involved, notably Y13 major players Ezra Whittaker-Powley & Ben Channing. Chris, Fraser & Frank were also significant contributors with their technical input. Congratulations to Evan Harding-Powell who showed a powerful voice in coming 2nd in the Year 10 Speech Finals and to Douglas Lloyd who continued to build up a fine collection of awards in winning his weight division at the Auckland Club Wrestling Champs. Friday, April 30 Scholars! Congratulations to our scholars who were recognised at the Top Scholars function on Tuesday, 27th April. Dungannon had a disproportionately high number of top achievers in the 2009 NCEA examinations. Those recognised for their successes were: (Y13 - 2009) Michael Walden, Lawrence Rudkin & Dean Cutfield; (Y12) Denholm Miller & Ezra Whittaker-Powley; (Y11) Cody Carnachan, Patrick Sun & Bo Wen. Saturday, April 24 Another Gold! Congratulations once again to Head of House, Rupinder Sandhu. Rupinder competed in the Under 18 77kg division of the NZ Open Tae Kwon Do Championships during the April break. For the second year in succession, Rupinder came away with the Gold medal. Term One 2010
With only eight weeks of actual school, it has been a short, busy, hectic term. That means that it was a plunge right into the action for our new Assistant Housemaster, Madame Slade-Luchesse. She has coped admirably and has started a French conversation group, as well as sharing her athletics expertise with those keen to improve. Ms Julia Brown has also joined the Dungannon team as Academic Mentor for the Year 9 boys, with whom she has regular contact, giving excellent advice and assistance. Our Year 12 Prefects have also been regularly offering academic assistance to younger members of the House, and it is pleasing to see that most of the Year 12 students who have been rostered on to help others academically in the Library are in fact from Dungannon. We have not yet been officially given the results of the Swimming and Athletics sports. However, we do know that Owen Anslow is the Intermediate Swimming Champion and that Denholm Miller was placed in the top three for the Seniors. In the athletics, we had many outstanding performers and performances, including Ethan King, Tom Duncan and Ryan Dwyer coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Senior Championship. Kaveinga Finau and Darius Marshall came 3rd in the Intermediate and Junior championships respectively. The Heads of House and the Prefects did a great job in organising the House trip to Waiwera on Wednesday 24th February, and then put a huge effort into organising the troops for the House Music Competition - which we won! In the Small House item, the boys scored 199/200 from the two judges, which is amazing and a real credit to them. Other early successes in the year include Jayden Toa-Maxwell's (Y11) selection in the NZ Under 16 Softball team and Kaveinga Finau (Y11) - gold, Will Rew (Y10) - silver and Douglas Lloyd (Y9) - silver, winning medals at the NZ Secondary Schools' Wrestling Champs in Wellington. Henry Whitaker also picked up some medals, but suffered an unfortunate knee injury which hampered his celebrations.
Heads of House 2010
School Prefects for 2010 Dungannon House received a real honour earlier this term with 8 of the 17 School Prefects appointed for 2010 coming from Dungannon. They have been a part of a great team in the House and we feel sure that they will provide the same feelings of unity and camaraderie for the school that they gave to the House. Well done: Ezra, Denholm, Angus, Tumokai, Tarquin, Tom, Michael & Ikani. House Trip 2007 North Island Rowing Champs 2007

Unfortunately, his fastidiousness led to him getting stuck upside down behind his locker! Luckily, Head of House, Graeme O'Leary was nearby, showing a great deal of concern!!
What a Relaxing Environment! End of Term Day In! Grappling News Congratulations! Waiwera Trip 2004 Athletics Sports 2004 Swimming Sports 2004 Touch Football Rep DFC Donation Moving On Study Efforts Reap Rewards Whilst many Dungannon boys will receive awards at the Annual Dilworth Prizegiving for their academic successes, one of the most satisfying aspects of the evening's presentations is the high number who will be rewarded for their diligence. Of the 8 awards available in Years 9 - 12 for Diligence or Consistent Application, no fewer than 6 have been awarded to boys from Dungannon House. This is a significant achievement and a reflection on the many boys in the House who are striving to make the most of their opportunities. Well done Dungannon!
