Strong performances at Woodlawn Invitational
Emil Bojanov led a string of strong distance performances at the 2003 edition of the Woodlawn Invitational on Saturday. Bojanov began the meet by finishing a close 2nd to Jesse Slowikowski of C. Milton Wright in the mile. The Dulaney senior headed to compete at the University of Chicago finished the race in 4:26.1. Later in the day, Bojanov came back in the 800 meter dash to win the event against a strong field. Bojanov outkicked Sam Henry of Woodlawn High School to win in 1:59.6. Following Bojanov in the mile was senior Andy Carmer(Gettysburg College), who finished in 4:30. Carmer also scored in the 800, finishing 4th in 2:02.
The team also received stellar performances from the competitors in the 2-mile run today. Running out of the slow heat, the trio of junior Travis Knox, junior Jason Jura, and sophomore Patrick Duffy finished 4-5-6 overall. Knox led the team by finishing in 10:14. Jura followed a few steps later in 10:18. Duffy held on to finish in 10:26.
Other strong efforts at Woodlawn came from Kellen Lomax in the 100 dash and 200 dash, and the 4 x 400 relay team of Rory Jenkins, Matt Kelley, Jonelle Williams and Demetri Jones.
The girls were led by junior Sarah Auerbach who finished 3rd overall in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:12. Another strong highlight of the meet came from freshman Sara Cimino, who finished 5th in the mile in 5:46. Catherine Winders debuted in the 800 this season today with a strong 4th place finish in 2:33.

Results from Catonsville/Towson meet
Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Track and Field team for their victories over Catonsville and Towson yesterday. The team received victories from Richard Hsu in the hurdles, Rory Jenkins in the mile, Andy Carmer in the 400 meter dash, Philip Isett in the long jump, Desmond Hubbard in the pole vault and A.J. Iacoboni in the triple jump. Other strong performances came from Garrett Dachille(2nd in the mile), Emil Bojanov(2nd in the 400), Kellen Lomax(4th in the 100), and Daniel Clasing(2nd in the 800).
The Girls Junior Varsity track team was also victorious over Catonsville and Towson. Victories for Dulaney came from Fay Wu in the 100 hurdles, Tasha Lair in the mile in 6:17, Alexis Martino in the 2-mile in 13:31, Kathryn Shaughnessy in the 300 hurdles, and Jessica Anderson in the shot put. Other strong performances came from Kara Ruder in the sprints, Eliza Kleban and Shelly Daniels in the mile, Kara Tu in the hurdles and Hillary Field in the discus.
In losses to Catonsville and Towson, the Girls Varsity team received individual victories from Lauren Dietrich in the mile, Sarah Auerbach in the hurdles, Kristen Marshall in the pole vault, and Natalie Bond in the 2-mile. In their loss, the Boys JV team received victories from Brandon Barrett in the mile, and Jordan Chang in the 2-mile.

Three Bryn Mawr athletes were disqualified for holding hands as they crossed the finish line in the 2-mile run. The girls were finishing 1-2-3, and could have competed with each other to the finish. However, instead, in a showing of team solidarity, they decided to finish together.
They were disqualified for "providing assistance" to each other. Whatever. Enjoy the column.

Congratulations to senior Andy Carmer for earning a spot on the 1st team All Baltimore City/County for Track and Field.
Andy finished his season by running 4:25 in the mile at the Maryland State meet.
