DREAMERS SOFTBALL - - Mens slowpitch team founded in 1978 with 226 alumni from Maryland and 8 other States... The Dreamers have played in 1493 games winning 1000 for a .670 winning %. 2001 proved to be the most successful year as the Dreamers won 97 Games enjoying a .764 winning %... That year they captured 4 league titles and 1st place in 2 local tournaments. A 2nd place finish at OC as well as a 6th place out of 96 teams in York Pa... 2001 USSSA "D" power rankings placed The Dreamers 6th in Maryland out of 300+ teams. Parenting combined with father time prompted the team to 'semi-retire' in 2008.
Dreamers played in a 2008 Ocean City Fall Tournament finishing 3rd out of 14 teams. Five years later (2013) in the same tournament they went 0-4..... MIND SAYS YES,,,, body says NO Flipping Way!
On Oct 7th, 2017 The Dreamers won game #1000 at Ocean Citys Seacrets Tournament, thanks in part to some youth and LOTS of Old Age Grit. Looking for 1001 in 2018 !
Beginning with 3b Steve Giordani in 1978, John Picciotto, Don Allik, Eddie Starlepper, Dick Dickson, Barry Wolfshiemer, Bob Bortel, Randy Esenwine, Vince DiGiacomo & Willy Fahey all the way to the 2017 Dreamer Roster, The DREAMERS have established a unique softball organization; though never the best in the State, possibly the oldest and richest in tradition.. The Dreamers lost one of it's finest as did the law enforcement world when on 9/16/13 Mike Ridgell was one of 12 killed by a gunman in the DC Naval Yard Shooting. Mike was one of the scrappiest players to ever wear a Dreamer uniform. He always gave 110 % and it rubbed off on his teammates. His patented head first slides were worth the price of admission. His uniform was by far the dirtiest and win or lose he always showed good sportmanship. Mike never lost the little kid in him and many a funny stories will continue to be told of Mike's antics at the Ocean City Tournaments. Like the time Tommy pulled some guy over on Coastal Highway and gave him a ticket. Thanks for the Good Times Mike, you will be missed !
