Weekend update

Sunday was cold and rainy and the field was nice and sloppy... perfect for November football.

The Division 2 playoffs had the Flying Weasels (1) Vs. VPC (2). Both teams started off slow on offence, however both defences came to play. The story of the first half were the many great picks by both sides and two QBs who were moving the ball well but could not find the endzones. The score at half time 6-7 for VPC.

The second half VPC found a groove and made a key defensive stop, credit to Bobby, who took one for the team and dove into the biggest puddle of mud on the field to make the stop two plays in a row... this gave VPC excellent field position and they drove for the score. The Weasels fought back all the way to the end of the game but could not punch it in for the score. VPC wins back to back Div2 Championships with a score of 15-6.

Great job to both teams... it was a great game with a lot of talent on both teams.

The Div 1 final showcased Rambling Wreck (1) Vs. Knights (2). Very similar to Div2, the frst half was a showcase of defence. Both teams played very well and protected the deep play and forced the opposing QB's to work for every yard. The Knights scored first and converted the extra point to put pressure on the Wreck to score. The Wreck answered by moving the lenght of the field in a very short time and with one play remaining in the half they could not connect for the score. That left the Knights up at half time 7- 0.

The second half had the Knights defence locking down the Wrecks offence and kept forcing the Wreck to punt from deep in their own territory and would set up their offence with a short field to work with. Credit the Wrecks defence as they held the knights offense in check and would not give up the points, however the cycle continued with the Wreck offence getting the ball within their 10 yard line.

Knights QB Damian put together some great drives and the Knights made some amazing catches to go up by 2 scores in the fourth quarter and they never looked back. The Wreck andswered with a scoring drive late in the game to put some points on the board but it was too late to change the outcome of the game.

The Knights win 21-8 and are the Div1 champs for 2008. Congratulations guys!

Final Note:

A wanted to extend a big thank you to all the players and captains for the work they put in to organize their respective teams. It was a great year with a lot of very competitve games and I look forward to next years season.

Also a huge thank you to our refs, Rick, Ken and Mitch. You guys were awesome. You all have a great feel for the game and the league and called some excellent games. It was great to see the refs explaining the nuances of the game to those who were just starting to play and understand the many rules of play.

Thanks again to all the players who participated.... have a great winter and a good off season.
