Doc's NYC Lacrosse League
Doc's 4th Grade and Under Team 2001
Doc's 4th Grade and Under Team 2001
We are a nonprofit youth lacrosse league based in Manhattan for children in grades 1-8. We have a recreational league program for boys and girls, as well as a series of travel teams that play throughout Westchester, CT, NJ and LI. Our goals are to introduce the sport of lacrosse on an organized basis to New York City youth players in a setting that stresses individual commitment, successful team play and good sportsmanship.

Spring Lacrosse is coming.  Early registration for the spring programs is now available shortly. Check our main website: www.docsnyclacrosse.org

DOC’S BOYS SPRING LACROSSE
Grades 4 and below

The boys program is divided by grade. The youngest group, grades 4 and below, play on Sunday afternoons with optional practices/games during the week. These sessions consist of a short clinic/practice that will include instructional/competitive drills building up to game situations. No previous experience playing is required. All boys in this group are also encouraged to play in travel games against other teams in Westchester, NJ and CT. At this level, the goals of the travel team are to have fun and introduce the players to competitive game situations. The emphasis is on sportsmanship, responsibility, learning how to be a “team player” and recognizing the importance of practice and commitment. Although “winning” is always fun, it is not the major focus at this level. Doc’s travel teams at this level are invited each year to play in top tournaments in the NY Metro area going into June. The better players on our older travel teams have benefited greatly from starting their play at this age.

Grades 5 and above
The older boys have a Recreational League mostly on Sunday afternoons consisting of a short clinic/practice that will include instructional/competitive drills followed by a game. Attendance and commitment is up to the player and family. We have found this to be a great way to learn the game, but only if a solid effort is put into the instruction/coaching provided. Players interested in a more competitive experience are encouraged to consider joining a Travel Team. We field travel teams for boys in grades 5/6 and in grades 7/8. Again, our major emphasis is on sportsmanship, responsibility, learning how to be a “team player”, recognizing the importance of practicing hard, commitment to a team, and having fun. However, the teams become increasingly more competitive at the higher grades. These teams will typically have at least one game and/or practice/week in addition to the Sunday program and play into mid-June. They play teams in Westchester, NJ and CT, as well as a number of tournaments over the season. Over the past few years, Doc’s has been very competitive against the other teams.

DOC’S GIRLS SPRING LACROSSE
The girls Recreational League plays on Sunday afternoons and is comprised of Junior (grades 4 and below), Intermediate (5 & 6). and Senior (grades 5 and above) Divisions. The Junior Girls Division emphasises fundamentals first, leading to team play. The Intermediate and Senior Girls Division also will focus on basic skills but move at a quicker pace toward game situations. Conditioning and competitive drills will be part of the program structure. The emphasis is on sportsmanship, responsibility, learning how to be a “team player” and recognizing the importance of practice and commitment. The girls programs plays other girls teams in the metropolitan area and participates in a number of tournaments. Games are scheduled during the week and/or weekends. Tournaments are normally held on weekends.
