DISTRICT 51
UMPIRE ASSOCIATION
To District 51 Little Leagues:
The certified umpires of District 51 are forming an Umpire Association based upon a Western Regional organizational format. All certified umpires are part of the association with umpires in training being associate members with a voice in its operation.
The association goals are:
1. To train and certify more umpires.
2. Provide a pool of certified umpires for ALL Leagues to draw from.
3. Provide training for new and certified umpires.
4. Identify deserving umpires for post-season games.
5. Create a master on-line schedule for post-season games.
6. Provide a channel for rule change notification.
7. Sponsor umpire clinics taught by Regional umpires.
Each League is being asked for a $50 donation to be used for the above stated goals. Checks should be made out to "District 51" or "District 51 Little League" with the word "Umpire" noted on the memo line of the check.
The first clinic is the 6th of February at Palmdale Little League, with instructors Harrison Cole and Oliver Wardenar. Both have done Little League World Series games and regularly instruct at Western Regional HQ. It is strongly suggested that all Leagues make the clinic mandatory for all potential and existing certified umpires.
Richard Carrillo has started a website (see above link) where upcoming events will be announced and umpire schedules will be posted during the season. Leagues will be able to request certified umpires via the website for important games and umpires will be able to apply to do games.
