Hello Diamond Ridge Cloggers! It's Ariel here, and I wanted to stop in and tell you all that I miss you a lot! I am still clogging although there is no group, team or teachers here. I am learning more steps and routines from DVD's sent to me all the way from Australia! I love it. Right now I'm learning Cotton Eye Joe and Chicken With the Train! They are really fast! I practice once a week on the stage at my school and at home every day. This summer I am going to try to perform at some County Fairs. Miss Wendy- I MISS YOU!
Love,
Ariel

Hello everyone!

I hope you're all enjoying your new classes. The instructors are having a lot of fun teaching you and look forward to each class.

Don't forget about our Fill the Floor Contest. Have friends and family join you in dance classes and you get the credit for it - a $70 gift card!! Right now we have a tie among three dancers, each of whom have recruited 2 people to join us. So this is still anyone's contest to win!

See you in class and never stop dancing!

Smiles~Wendy

Many in motion: Cloggers young and old take the stage tonight
Published Friday, June 8th, 2007
By Dori O'Neal, Herald staff writer

Instead of Fred and Ginger, it'll be Fred and Rebecca kicking up their heels with the Kids in Motion dance exhibition tonight.   What makes this duo even more unique is the age difference between the two dancers. Fred Shaffner admits to being well past 70, and Rebecca Robbins just turned 3.

Though both are cloggers with the Diamond Ridge Cloggers, it's ballet that is Rebecca's true love. "Becca learned to clog by watching her cousin take lessons at the studio," said Rebecca's mom, Katie Robbins. "But she actually takes ballet lessons. She loves it."

Besides the fancy footing of Shaffner and Rebecca, the Kids in Motion dance show, now in its third year, has featured other unique dance pairings, such as martial arts guests combining a routine with cloggers and ballet dancers going toe to toe with cloggers.   At this year's event, swing dancers will jive with cloggers.

Shaffner might be old enough to be Rebecca's great-grandfather, but the feisty senior citizen has enough energy to keep up with the toddler. "These kids are fabulous. They can do things with their feet I can only imagine," Shaffner said with a laugh. "I've always wanted to do something to music, and though I had no rhythm for an instrument and I can't sing, I can dance."

Shaffner's brother taught for the Arthur Miller dance studio in California for many years, which is why the Kennewick man thought dancing might be something he could do.   In fact, he thinks a lot more older folks like him should give clogging a try because it'll keep them young. "If you can stand up, you can clog," he said. "It's great fun."
