FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much travel is involved?
The older teams will travel more than the younger girls, but all will travel at least
two to three tournaments. We typically leave on Friday after school to get places.
One day tournaments are just that, and traveling to and from the site happens
the same day. Places we like to frequent are Penn State, Orlando, Baltimore &
Atlanta to name a few.
What are the benefits playing Junior Olympic volleyball?
PLENTY! The more you play this game the better. Court time equates into better
skills and anticipation during the game. Traveling is good for facing opponents
that you t know and adjust to their game during play. Playing for Diamond
Juniors has added benefits of private practice facilities, and personal training
from both the coaches and trainers at RSF.
How much commitment does this need?
The more time you put into your team; chances are your skills will increase along
with your team. It does take time to get better at any skill and this is no exception.
Winter school sports usually don't conflict as much as spring sports, because of
Sat. practices, tournaments and make-up games due to weather. This junior's
experience takes at least one weekend practice & one weeknight practice.
Is it possible to get college scholarship money?
ABSOLUTELY! There is more money than people realize available as far as
athletic scholarships are concerned. Again, it is how hard each player and the
parents work at finding the money and getting that player exposed to recruiters. It takes many contacts w/coaches and recruiting staff employees to get to know the players. With Diamond Juniors, the administrator will be making those contacts as part of the job. Most recruiting happens during club seasons, not high school.
Very few, if any, college players were recruited in high school. Some of the larger
tournaments we attend have a varied number, i.e. 100 -300, college recruiters on
site to view players.
Will fundraising help?
YES! In fact, each team once assembled will set a fund rais ing goal and ideas to
meet that goal and help their individual team budgets. Diamond Juniors as a
program will do some fund raising for the whole budget.
When will I know if ve made a team?
The coaches will be calling the girls they have chosen within 48 hours after
tryouts. The administrator will call the girls who are not chosen, also within 48
hours.
When are practices?
Most practices are varied, but each team is going to try to meet once on the
weekend and one weekday evening. Also, the personal training sessions with
your team at RSF will be a weeknight.
What is included in the costs?
Included in costs are tournament fees, court time, instruction, personal training,
travel costs, (hotels, vans, planes), uniforms, warm-ups and coaches expenses.
Who pays for food?
It is the s responsibility to provide sustenance for themselves, especially
on one-day events. When traveling, the group eats together, but each pays
separately. It is suggested parents be as involved as possible and can even
rotate days to provide salads, snacks, drinks, etc.
How much playing time will I get?
This is a pay to play program. Never will playing time be equal across the board
for any team, but no one person will sit on the bench 100% of the time. This is
your opportunity, if you make a team, to improve your skills. Because of time
commitment, those who are able to attend practices regularly, usually are the
ones who receive more playing time.
Do grades at school effect club ball?
ABSOLUTELY! Your grades are more important than playing. If you need help in
your time management to make sure your schoolwork is complete, ASK. There is
no ruling about academic eligibility, but m sure your parents will keep the
coaches aware of any pitfalls. Managing your time is critical. On road trips, we
usually can set up a study hour in the hotel.
