Diablos season ends with 4-2 loss to Chino Hills in CIF Wild Card game
Mission Viejo's season ended with a 10 inning loss to Chino Hills 4-2 in their CIF Division III Wild Card game. The Diablos fought throughout the game to scratch out their 2 runs and hold the Huskies to 1 run until they tied the game in the top of the seventh. The Diablos managed to tie the game 1-1 in the fourth when Mikayla Fernandez scored on a wild pitch. They then pulled ahead in the bottom of the 6th on Tory Speer's homerun to rightcenter to give the Diablos a 2-1 lead. Chino Hills came back and managed to tie the game in the top of the seventh and then eventually score 2 runs in the 10th. Mission Viejo takes 2nd place in South Coast League despite 5-4 loss to Tesoro
Mission Viejo finished the season 18-11 overall and 7-3 in league, taking 2nd place in the South Coast League. The Diablo season continues in the CIF Division III playoffs with a wild card game against Chino Hills. The Diablos ended the regular season however with a tough 5-4 loss to Tesoro despite a late inning rally to tie the game 3-3 at the end of seven innings. Even though they scored the go ahead run in the top of the 8th they could not hold off the home team as they pushed across 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Mission defeats Capo Valley 6-0 improving to 7-2 in South Coast League play
The combination of the Diablos pitching and hitting defeated Capo Valley 6-0 to improve Mission's South Coast League record to 7-2 with one game to go and maintain a share of first place. Mandy Fernandez spread out 6 hits to shutout the visiting Cougars. Tayler Ybarra and Bethany Patterson both had two hits but Katie Belanger's three hits and three RBIs led the way to the Diablo victory.

Mission's 9-5 win over Dana Hills gives the Diablos a share of first place in the South Coast League
A combination of Mission Viejo's win over Dana and Aliso Niguel's loss to Tesoro puts the Diablos back into a tie for first place with the Wolverines with two games to play in the South Coast League season. The Diablos also clinched a CIF playoff berth with the win. The Diablos took advantage of the Dolphin's pitchers control problems early in the game to put 7 runs on the board in the first two innings. The Mission Viejo hitting attack was led by Tory Speer's triple and Mikayla Fernandez's double.

Mission hammers San Clemente 9-1 to improve to 5-2 in South Coast League play
Mission Viejo's offense came out of the gate firing, scoring 9 runs in their first four at bats, defeating the visiting Tritons 9-1. Mandy Fernandez's pitching held San Clemente scoreless until the seventh inning when they were able to push across their only run of the contest. In the Diablo's half of the first Mission wasted no time when Bethany Patterson led off with a single, Chelsea Tate reached on a dropped flyball with Bethany being erased at second. Tory Speer singled and Mikayla Fernandez's two run double to RCF put the Diablos up quickly 2-0. In the third Tory Speer hit a homerun to centerfield, her seventh of the season. Katie Belanger and Mikayla Fernandez then both singled. Nikki Byron's pinch hit double followed to drive in both runs to increase the lead to 5-0. In the fourth inning Bethany Patterson lead off again with a double, Chelsea Tate walked and Tory Speer reached on a fielder's choice when the Tritons failed to get Bethany at third to load the bases. Katie Belanger's sacrifice fly down the rightfield line followed to score Bethany from third. Mikayla Fernandez then hit a ball that went under the fence for groundrule double forcing the Diablos to stop at 2nd and 3rd with Chelsea scoring. Janelle Gusiff's single then drove them both in to increase the Diablo lead to 9-0. The Diablo defense contributed as well as Tayler Ybarra picked off Triton runners off secondbase in consecutive innings. Tory Speer also tracked down two long flyballs to left, including snagging a possible San Clemente homerun at the fence. Click on the link to view the photos from the game.

Mission Viejo held to only 2 hits in 5-2 loss against Aliso Niguel
The Diablos only manage to get two hits against Aliso Niguel in their 5-2 loss. Mission did make the most out of their two hits, scoring runs on each of them. In the 3rd inning Chelsea Tate led off with a walk, Tory Speer forced her on a fielders choice and then took second on Katie Belangers ground out. Mikayla Fernandez's single up the middle scored Tory Speer from second. In the top of the fifth inning Tory Speer hit a solo homerun over the centerfield fence for the Diablos second run. Diablos move into tie for 1st Place with 3-0 win over previously undefeated Tesoro
Mission Viejo moved into a tie for 1st place in the South Coast League with a 3-0 win over Tesoro. The Diablos were able to deliver the Titans their first loss of the season. Mandy Fernandez pitched her third shutout of the season and held the Titans in check all day holding them to only 6 hits. The Diablos got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the second when Janelle Gusiff singled, Tayler Ybarra laid down a bunt for a basehit and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Jenny Richards then came through with a two run single. Mission added an insurance run in the 5th when Chelsea Tate singled and then advanced around the bases on three wild pitches. The Diablo defense helped Mandy Fernandez all day, playing errorless ball behind her, making all the plays including a nice diving grab by Chelsea Tate at shortstop. Diablos defeat Capo Valley 4-3 in 9 inning contest to improve to 3-1 in league play
Mission Viejo took 9 innings but in the end defeated Capistrano Valley 4-3. The Diablo offense was fueled by Katie Belanger, Jennifer Richards and Tayler Ybarra with 2 hits appiece. Bethany Patterson led the way with three hits and Tory Speer's 2 run Homerun in the top of first inning got things started for the Diablos.

Mission Viejo tops Dana Hills 8-1 in South Coast League play
The Diablos defeated Dana Hills 8-1 to go to 2-1 in South Coast League play. Mandy Fernandez spread out the Dolphins hits and with some clutch Diablo defensive plays held them to only 1 run. In the 2nd inning Tayler Ybarra once again threw out a would be base stealer. Tory Speer made a sliding catch in leftfield to end a Dana Hills rally in the 3rd. Bethany Patterson made two strong throws from rightfield, throwing out one runner at home and another cutting down a batter at first to take away a hit. The Mission Viejo offense was very effective, scoring runs in 5 out of their 6 at bats. In the first inning Bethany Patterson led off by being hit-by-the-pitch...again, A wild pitch sent her to second and then Tory Speer doubled down the rightfield line to score the Diablos first run. Mikayla Fernandez's single scored Tory as well. In the second, Mandy Fernandez singled, Tayler Ybarra walked and both advanced on a wild pitch. Bethany Patterson's single scored Mandy to take a 3-0 lead. After Dana scored their only run of the game in the top of the third the Diablos countered when Tory Speer led off with a double down the leftfield line, Katie Belanger sacrified her to third and Mikayla Fernendez's sacrifice fly scored her from third. Mission added one more in the 4th on Jenny Richards double, Bethany Patterson's walk and Jenny took third on the wild pitch. Mission then executed a succesful double steal to score the run. To add more to their cushion the Diablos added another 3 runs in the sixth when Jenny Richards doubled again, Bethany Patterson reached on an error with Jenny scoring and Bethany ending up at second. Chelsea Tate laid down a bunt single, Tory Speer hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Bethany and Chelsea ending up at third who then scored on a wild pitch to finish the Diablos scoring for the day. Mission defeats Bishop Montgomery 5-4 in extra innings to finish the Woodbridge Tournament
The Diablos finished off the Woodbridge Tournament with a 5-4 victory over Bishop Montgomery in a 9 inning game, scoring two runs in their last at bat. Mission pulled ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th when Janelle Gusiff doubled and Tayler Ybarra singled to score the first run. Nikki Byron sacrificed Tayler to 3rd and Bethany Patterson's infield single scored the 2nd run. Mission fell behind 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh but they were able to push a run across to send the game into extra innings. Chelsea Tate reached first but Tory Speer erased her on a fielder's choice. Tory then took second on a wild pitch allowing Katie Belanger's single to drive her in to tie the game. After Bishop Montgomery scored in the top of the ninth, Mission did one better scoring two in their half of the frame to win 5-4. Jenny Richards started the inning at secondbase and Bethany Patterson wasted no time by hitting a single to score Jenny from second. Chelsea Tate then sacrificed Bethany to second and reached first when Bishop couldn't field the bunt cleanly and Mikayla Fernandez hit the game winner, a single up the middle. The Diablo defense helped keep Bishop in check as Janelle Gusiff snagged a linedrive with a diving catch in the 5th. Tayler Ybarra picked off a runner at first in the 6th and cut down another runner trying to steal third in the 8th. Chelsea Tate's diving backhand stop of a groundball got the Bishop runner too far off second and Tory Speer held the batter to a triple by running down a long Bishop drive in the 9th. Diablos drop early morning game to Woodbridge 6-3 in the Woodbridge Tournament
Mission Viejo's offense couldn't muster enough runs to defeat Woodbridge in an early Saturday morning loss, 6-3. The Diablos fell behind 6-1 until a 2 run rally in the top of seven put Mission within reach. Mission got on the board first when in the top of the 3rd Bethany Patterson walked and Tory Speer tripled her home for a 1-0 lead. The Diablos rallied again in the 7th when Mandy Fernandez and Bethany Patterson's singles were followed up by Tory Speer's two-run double to cut the lead to 6-3. Diablo pitching shuts out Tritons in 7-0 victory over San Clemente
Mission Viejo pitcher Mandy Fernandez pitched her 2nd shutout of the season holding San Clemente scoreless in the Diablos second league game providing a Diablo 7-0 victory. Mission started the game hitting in the top of the first when Bethany Patterson led off the game with a single and continued when Chelsea Tate doubled. Tory Speer was then intentionally walked to load the bases. Katie Belanger hit a line shot towards right but the Triton's secondbaseman turned it into a double play instead. In the third inning Mission put 2 runs on the board when Chelsea Tate walked and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. Tory Speer singled to center and Chelsea scored on an agressive slide at the plate. Katie Belanger singled to put runners on first and third. Janelle Gusiff grounded to second but when San Clemente tried to keep Tory on third the relay throw from the catcher went awry allowing Tory to score instead. In the sixth after Tayler Ybarra and Mandy Augerson singled Jenny Richards hit a three run homerun to centerfield. The Diablos finished their scoring in the 7th on Katie Belanger's single, her third hit of the game. Mikayla Fernandez doubled to score Katie followed by singles by Janelle Gusiff and Tayler Ybarra to load the bases. Mandy Augerson's sacrifice fly finished Mission's scoring. In the bottom of the first Tory Speer's throw from leftfield cut down the only Triton scoring chance at home when they tried to score on a single to left. Chelsea Tate also chased down a shallow flyball down the leftfield line and later doubled up a runner at first on a lineout to shortstop. Click on the link to view the photos of the game.

Mission Viejo late rally falls short in 11-7 loss to Aliso Niguel
Mission Viejo opened South Coast League play at home against Aliso Niguel. Their last inning rally fell short however in the 11-7 loss. The Diablos struck first, scoring 2 runs in the 2nd inning but the Wolverines responded with 11 unanswered runs as Mission went into the bottom of the 7th down 11-2. The Diablos rallied for 5 runs to make a game of it but didn't have enough outs left to pull ahead. Mission Viejo put up 2 runs in the 2nd when Bethany Patterson doubled and Tayler Ybarra singled over shortstop scoring Bethany and Tayler ended up at secondbase. Mandy Augerson ran for Tayler and Jenny Richards reached first on an error and Mandy raced home from second for their second run. Down 11-2 in the seventh the Diablos ralled for 5 runs when Mikayla Fernandez singled and Mandy Augerson walked. Nikki Byron reached first when Mandy delayed the Wolverine's secondbaseman and they couldn't complete the double play. Jenny Richards then singled to score Mikayla. Janelle Gusiff followed with a single sending Nikki to third. Chelsea Tate's sacrifice fly followed scoring Nikki for the 2nd run. Mission goes extra innings again in 5-4, 8 inning loss to San Clemente in the Woodbridge Tourny
Mission Viejo goes extra frames once again in the Woodbridge Tournament, eventually losing to San Clemente 5-4 in 8 innings. The Diablos hit the ball hard throughout the game but didn't follow the "hit it where they ain't" rule as the Tritons turned them into outs instead. Down 3-0 going into the top of the seventh, Mission finally rallied to score 3 of their own to tie the game. Tory Speer led off the inning with a single, Bethany Patterson also singled and Mikayla Fernandez doubled Tory home. Mandy Fernandez singled to score the second run and then Taylor Ybarra's ground out scored the third run to tie the game. In the top of the 8th inning, Mandy Fernandez started off at 2nd base and Jenny Richards sacrified her to third. Chelsea Tate then brought her in with a double. The Diablos couldn't hold the lead however and lost 5-4 in 8 innings. Alison McKibbon pitched for the Diablos striking out 4 and pitching out of several jams, including a bases loaded one early in the contest. Click on the link to view the photos from the game.

Mission Viejo wins in extra innings 4-1 against Huntington Beach in the Woodbridge Tournament
Mission Viejo's second game of the day in the Woodbridge Tournament goes scoreless through 7 innings before the Diablos win 4-1 in the 9th. Mandy Fernandez held Huntington Beach scoreless until the 8th inning and held them again in the bottom of the 9th despite spotting them a runner on 2nd base due to the International Tie Breaker rule. Some key Diablo defensive plays help keep the Oilers scoreless, secondbasemen Mandy Augerson fielded a ball up the middle and threw the runner out at first, Katie Belanger doubled up a runner at first after a line-out to third and Jenny Richards threw out the batter going for a double before the leading runner could score to end the inning. The Diablos pulled ahead in the top of the 8th when Jenny Richards started the inning at secondbase, Tory Speer sacrificed her to third and Janelle Gusiff singled to put the first run of the game on the board. HB tied the score in their half of the 8th so Mission put up 3 more runs in the top of the ninth inning. Bethany Patterson started the inning at 2nd, Mandy Augerson and Tayler Ybarra both walked and Alison McKibbon hit a flyball to rightfield that HB misplayed to score 2 runs. MIssion drops slugfest to Villa Park 10-9 in opening game of the Woodbridge Tournament
Mission Viejo and Villa Park combined pounded out 24 hits and scored 19 runs in their slugfest in the opening game of the Woodbridge Tournament. Mission Viejo came back after spotting VP a 6-3 lead in the third inning, including pulling ahead 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning before falling 10-9 in the seventh. The Diablos scored first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning when Tory Speer lead off being hit-by-the-pitch, Janelle Gusiff sacrificed her to second. Mikayla Fernandez then hit a popup behind second that fell with the runners ending up at second and third. Katie Belanger's ground out got Mission on the board and then Chelsea Tate's triple to RCF scored another. Mandy Fernandez then followed with a triple of her own to score Chelsea making it 3-0. In the third inning Mission scored two more when Mikayla Fernandez reached on an error and Katie Belanger belted a homerun to left field. Mission Viejo score again in the fourth when Bethany Patterson was hit-by-the-pitch, Tayler Ybarra sacrified and Jenny Richards doubled. The Diablos final rally came in the bottom of the 6th when Tayler Ybarra and Jenny Richards both singled and Tory Speer followed with a three run homerun to left putting Mission temporarily ahead 9-8. Mission Viejo outlasts Woodbridge with a 4-3 victory
The Diablos were able to outlast Woodbridge in the pre-season game 4-3. The Warriors went up 3-0 after the first three innings. Mission then got the game close with 2 runs in the top of the fourth inning when Katie Belanger singled to right, Mikayla Fernandez walked and then a wild pitch moved the Diablo runners to 2nd and 3rd. Jenny Richards then singled to left driving in both runners. Mission took the lead for good in the sixth inning when once again Katie Belanger singled and reached 2nd on a wild pitch. Janelle Gusiff later doubled over the leftfielder's head to tie the game and then Jenny Richards hit one off the secondbasemen's glove to put the Diablo's ahead. Mission Viejo's comes back to tie SMCHS before losing 6-5
The Diablos fell behind 5-0 before mounting a comeback to tie Santa Margarita 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Diablos couldn't hold it as the Eagles scored in the top of the 7th to win 6-5. In the third inning the Diablos put 3 runs on the board when Nikki Byron got an infield hit, Tory Speer was hit by the pitch, Jenny Richards walked and Bethany Patterson drove in the first two runs with a ground rule double to LCF. Mikayla Fernandez was then hit by the pitch to load the bases and Katie Belanger walked to force in another run. In the sixth Mission tied the score 5-5 when both Tayler Ybarra and Tory Speer singled, Jenny Richards sacrificed and Bethany Patterson drove in her third run of the day with a single. The Diablo outfielders showed off their arms throwing out two Eagle runners, Bethany Patterson forced the runner at 2nd base on a single to rightfield and Tory Speer cut down a runner at home when she tried to tag up on a foul ball down the left field line. Mission defeats Edison 3-1 in a tight game
Mission Viejo came from behind to defeat Edison 3-1. Mandy Fernandez spread out the Chargers hits to hold them to only 1 run in another complete game victory. Chelsea Tate led the Diablo attack with 2 hits and accounted for all 3 Mission RBIs.

Diablos are Saddleback Tournament Consolation Champions with 6-5 win over Orange Lutheran
Mission Viejo defeated Orange Lutheran 6-5 to take the Saddleback Tournament Consolation Championship, going 3-1. Mission got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd when Katie Belanger singled, Chelsea Tate sacrificed her to second and Alison McKibbon singled the run in. They added another run in the third when Bethany Patterson was hit by the pitch and stole 2nd. Mikayla Fernandez hit a pop up behind 2nd that fell to score the run. Orange Lutheran then took and extended the lead with 3 runs in the fourth and 2 more in the fifth. The Diablos mounted a 4 run comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull back ahead for good, 6-5. Katie Belanger singled to right and Chelsea Tate singled to RCF. Alison McKibbon hit another single this time driving in two runs. With Janelle Gusiff pinch running for Alison, Tayler Ybarra singled to left tying the game. Tory Speer followed and drove in the go ahead run with a single up the middle. Mandy Fernandez found new energy late in the game after being hit by a line drive to shut down the Orange Lutheran offense, including striking out 2 in the top of the seventh to seal the win. Once again the Diablo defense cut runners trying for extra bases, Tayler Ybarra, Bethany Patterson and Chelsea Tate all threw out Lancer runners. Click on the link to view the photos from the game.

Diablos come out swinging in 12-3 victory over Ocean View
Mission Viejo scored 9 runs in the top of the first inning in route to a 12-3 five inning win over Ocean View in the Saddleback Tournament. Singles by Jenny Richards (2 singles), Mikayla Fernandez, Katie Belanger, Chelsea Tate, Mandy Augerson and Tayler Ybarra plus a double by Bethany Patterson and a homerun by Tory Speer fueled the 9 run first inning outburst. The Diablos added 3 more runs in the third when Tory Speer reached base on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Mikayla Fernandez singled and Katie Belanger followed with a two run homerun. Ocean View added runs late but were turned back when the Diablo defense cut them down on the basepaths. Mikayla Fernandez chased down a deep drive to left and threw out the batter trying for a triple. Bethany Patterson backed up the overthow at firstbase to nail the batter trying to take second. Diablos come out on top in 8 inning contest over Huntington Beach, 8-7
Mission Viejo went extra innings for the 2nd time in three games but this time came out on top 8-7 vs Huntington Beach in the Saddleback Tournament. Huntington Beach jumped ahead in the top of the first scoring one run but the potential bigger rally was cut short by Chelsea Tate's diving catch at shortstop. The Diablos came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning when Bethany Patterson was hit-by-the-pitch, Mikayla Fernandez then followed with a single that sent Bethany to third. They then succesfully executed a double steal to score the run. With Huntington up 3-1 in the third Mission cut the lead when Bethany Patterson drove in Tory Speer, who had walked earlier, on a groundout to short. Huntington Beach added another two runs in the 4th but Mission came back to tie the game when with the bases loaded Jenny Richards cleared the bases on a ground ball to shortstop as Katie Belanger, Nikki Byron and Tory Speer all came around on a couple of Huntington throwing errors. Chelsea Tate started the 5th inning rally with a double and scored on a double steal with Jenny Richards and then Tayler Ybarra singled in the second run. With the score tied 7-7 after seven innings Mission held HB scoreless in the top of the eigth and Tayler Ybarra ended the contest when she drove in Katie Belanger with a game winning single. Diablos drop a tight game against Rosary 4-3 in the Saddleback Tournament
Mission Viejo played their 6th game in 5 days and dropped a one-run game against Rosary 4-3 in the openning round of the Saddleback Tournament. Rosary started the game with 2 runs in the top of the first inning. Mission countered with a run of its own in the bottom of the 1st when Tory Speer led off with a single and scored on Bethany Patterson's double. The Diablos then pulled ahead in the 2nd when Mikayla Fernandez singled, Chelsea Tate sacrificed her to second and Mandy Fernandez singled. This setup the wild pitch that allow Mikayla to score. Then Tayler Ybarra's sacrifice bunt led to a Rosary error allowing Mandy Fernandez to score. Rosary pulled ahead for good in the top of the fourth inning by putting two more runs on the board despite a running catch deep in centerfield by Jenny Richards. Mission fights for 10 innings in final Dave Kops TOC game
Mission Viejo finished the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions tournament in Bullhead City, Arizona with a 10 inning marathon. Mission finally came up short in the tie-breakers, losing 5-4 to Fountain Valley after 10 long innings. Mandy Fernandez pitched all 10 innings and held FV scoreless for the first 5 innings. Mandy Augerson completed the first two outs of a first inning triple play by catching a line drive and stepping on second and then threw on to first to complete the feat. Chelsea Tate added a defensive gem of her own in the 6th with a play deep in the 5-6 hole but Fountain Valley still pushed across two runs. In the bottom of the 6th the Diablos came back to tie the game when Tayler Ybarra singled and with Janelle Gusiff coming in to run for her, Tory Speer singled, Jenny Richards sacrificed the runners to 2nd and 3rd and Bethany Patterson then singled them both home. Both teams scored two runs in the 8th inning as well when Jenny Richards tripled in Tory Speer who started the inning at 2nd. She then scored on Katie Belanger's ground ball. Diablos flex their muscles in 7-0 victory over Las Vegas Durango HS in Bullhead City
The Diablos took awhile to get the offense rolling but when it got going... final, 7-0 win against Durango. In addition to the Mission offense, Mandy Fernandez also held Durango, finishing the game with her first shutout of the season. The Diablo defense helped keep the Blazers scoreless, Mandy Augerson made a great catch on a popup going away from the infield and Tayler Ybarra threw out three potential basestealers. Mission started its scoring in the 2nd inning when Mandy Augerson doubled and scored on Tory Speer's error forcing ground ball. In the 4th Mikayla Fernandez singled, was sacrificed to second by Janelle Gusiff and Tory Speer following with the RBI double. The Diablos really got things started in the 5th inning as Bethany Patterson singled and then Katie Belanger homered over the RF wall. Mandy Augerson then singled and Chelsea Tate smashed a homer over the left field fence for a 4 run 5th inning. Mission falls behind early and never recovers vs Suagus at TOC, 8-1
Mission Viejo fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first and never got rolling in a 8-1 loss to Saugus. The Diablos would have fallen behind deeper if not for Chelsea Tate's diving catch with the bases loaded. Mission got on the board in the 4th inning when Mandy Augerson and Tory Speer succesfully executed a 1st and 3rd double steal. Click on the link to view the photos of the game.

Mission falls to Chino Hills in 2nd game of the TOC, 7-4
The Diablos took the lead early when in the top of the 2nd Mandy Augerson led off with a walk, Bethany Patterson singled and Mandy Fernadez added a three run homerun to the right field foul pole. Chino Hills took the lead with a big 5 run 4th inning and added runs in both the 5th and 6th innings as well. Mission was able to get one more run in the 5th when Chelsea Tate walked and Tory Speer doubled her home. Click on the link to view the photos from the game.

Mission Viejo wins their 1st round game at the Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Arizona
The Diablos started the tournament against Pacifica and came away with a 3-1 victory. In the first inning Katie Belanger made a diving stop on a ball down the thirdbase line and threw the batter out at first from her knees. In the third inning the Diablos foiled a Pacifica squeeze play when Mandy Fernandez tossed the bunted ball to Tayler Ybarra who blocked the plate for the out. Later Pacifica went ahead in the top of the 6th inning with a solo homerun. The Diablos countered in the bottom of the frame with 3 runs of there own when Makayla Fernandez singled and was sacrificed to second by Mandy Augerson. Bethany Patterson then doubled and Mandy Fernandez singled her in for a 2-1 lead. Nikki Byron then added a pinch hit single and later scored on Jenny Richards sacrifice fly to left. Saturday, March 7
Mission starts season 2-0 with double header wins against Bloomington High School
Mission traveled to Bloomington to open up their 2009 Softball season and brought back 2 wins to start the season 2-0.
The Diablos struck first in the first game and went on to win the game 2-1. In the top of the first inning Jenny Richards led off the game with a double to right. Tory Speer then singled her in to go up 1-0. After Bloomington tied the game in the botton of the 2nd the Diablos brought out the "Rally Cookies" in the top of the 4th inspiring Tory Speer to drive an opposite field Homerun over the RCF fence to put up the Diablos for good 2-1. Mandy Fernandez held the Bruins to 1 run in the complete game victory.
The second game had much more offense on both sides with Mission Viejo coming out on top 7-4. Mandy Fernandez held Bloomington scoreless until the bottom of seventh when the Bruins comeback scored 4 runs but fell well short. The Diablos scored in the first inning once again with Jenny Richards leading off the game with a walk, was sacrified to second, stole third and come home on a wild pitch. The Diablos broke open the game in the bottom of the 2nd when Nikki Byron doubled home two runs. Later in the 5th the Diablos openned up their lead even more when Mikayla Fernandez hit a two run double.
