Voluntary Pre-Season Baseball workouts will begin on 18 Feb at the baseball field at 1p.m.  Players should come equipped with all baseball gear, long sleeves and a jacket.  In case of poor weather we will move to the small gym.  Workout will continue through 20 Feb Monday – Thursday and Saturdays.  Attendance is not mandatory but is highly encouraged.  During the week workouts will either follow basketball practices or lower level games in the small gym.  Start times are tentative based on the basketball schedule and their practice duration.  The following is a complete schedule:

8p.m. : January 19, 20, 21, 25 and 27.  February 1, 3, 4, 8, 10, 17 and 18

6p.m.:  January 26 and 28.  February 2, 11 and 16.

NO WORKOUT on February 9^th, due to a Girls/Boys home doubleheader with Air Academy.

Saturday workouts will be at an indoor facility located at Airport and Circle from 1215 – 3; January 23 and 30.  February 6 and 13.  A onetime $25 per-player fee applies and must be paid on 23 Jan in cash at the first workout.  The fee covers all four workouts.  We get 12 hours for $25 which equates to about $2 per-hour.

Pre-Season workouts will begin Monday, 18 January at 1:00 on the Doherty baseball field, weather permitting.   Please be prepared to workout either inside or outside.  Outside workouts require LONG sleeves AND a JACKET; Inside workouts require non-marking athletic footwear (sneakers).  We will work out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Workouts will be at 8p.m. when basketball is not playing at 630p.m. when they are at home.  We will also try to be on the field every Saturday at 11, again weather dependent.  Schedules will be distributed to everyone.

Per the Colorado Easton Bat Representative...

All composite adult baseball bat models do not comply with the NCAA’s new 2010 performance rules and will not be legal for play in NCAA, NJCAA or NAIA in 2010.  Models that do not pass the 2010 ABI BESR test and therefore will not be allowed in these associations include:

      BCN4

      BCN7

      BCN8

      BCN9

      BSS1

      BSS2

      BZN1

      BCN1

As a reminder; these models remain compliant and can be used in High School play for 2010 and 2011. 

All Easton BESR certified aluminum and aluminum barrel/composite handle bats continue to be legal for play in all of the associations mentioned above.

Separate from this ABI/BESR rule for 2010, the NCAA will adopt the new BBCOR standard for their 2011 season and High School will adopt it for 2012.  This means Easton's all-composite adult baseball bat models are legal and will be legal for the 2010 and 2011 High School seasons.  Easton's aluminum and aluminum barrel/composite handle bats are approved for all associations and will continue to be until the BBCOR rule goes into effect.

Doherty workouts will run Dec 14th - January 13th on Monday and Wednesday, times will depend on the number of players participating.  Contact Coach Solarek if you need more details.

Athletic Republic is offering a 5 week speed/acceleration program exclusively for Doherty baseball players.  The normal cost is $395, however if we get 10 or more players to sign-up the cost is $120 per player.  You can sign-up driectly with Athletic Republic located behind the Empire Asian Buffet at Vickers & Academy.  Contact Brandon at Athletic Republic at 597-6776 for more information, to sign-up, or to schedule a complimentary workout.

I am pleased to announce that our new head coach, Chris Solarek, and the Doherty Athletic Director, Chris Noll, have made a joint decision to not charge admission to Doherty's home games during the upcoming season. 

If you see them, please thank them for waiving the admission fees that have been charged for home games in the past. 

We are working on other options for fundraising this year in lieu of not charging admission fees, more details to follow...
