The South Bend Blue Sox were a founding team in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The hometown of the team was South Bend, Indiana. The Blue Sox participated in every season of the All-America Girls Professional Baseball League from 1943 to 1954. The Blue Sox first played home games at Bendix Field, but later moved to Playland Park. They won the League Playoff Championship in 1951 and 1952.

.:: NOW RECRUITING FOR THE 2008 SEASON ::.

We are a grassroots-developed, progressive and elite level baseball club comprised of players from various competitive, athletic backgrounds. Our athletes have played fast-pitch softball, slow-pitch softball, lacrosse, tennis, soccer, rugby, basketball, football, and many other competitive sports, and are as young as 18... and as old as "Timeless". Our players encompass all walks of career life: from the home, to the classroom, to the boardroom, and beyond.

Our mission as an Elite Travel Team is to offer interested female athletes (15 and older) the opportunity to play competitive baseball at the highest level available (currently Elite Travel and the [Olympic-Equivalent] USA National Team). Our works also include partnerships with local little league groups (developing player skills and fundraiser events), physical support of local boys and girls programs, as well as offering ourselves as exhibition game challengers.

Our philosophy is best summarized in the words of the great Sultan of Swing:

Our hardball game is played just as it is in the Pros: regulation-style which includes a 60.6" pitching rubber, 90-foot base paths and an MLB regulation baseball. Stealing, Bunting, Diving and Hook-Sliding are also common occurrences. Although aluminum bats are allowed in league play, our players often prefer to practice with wood bats. Tee work drills, machine-fed hitting tunnels, pitching tunnels and the weight room are places and things you'll find us doing in the off-season.

Our in-season lasts from May through November, with an exciting culmination ending in Ft. Myers, Florida (Terry Park Stadium) / The Women's Nationals against teams outside of our normal mid-western league, from across the globe.

The Detroit Diesel's home games are played against the Chicago Gems (at Homer-Stryker Stadium); and Canadian teams sanctioned by the Central Ontario Girls Baseball League [COGBL] at Bicentennial Park Field in Livonia, Michigan.

Away games are generally played against Canadian teams at various Metropolitan Toronto area stadiums. Some of the players within the COGBL also play(ed) for TEAM CANADA. The Diesel will also participate in various tournaments in other states hosted by other teams in other leagues in 2008.

The Detroit Diesel will also enjoy play against The Detroit Danger locally at fields located in and around Royal Oak and Ann Arbor, Michigan. These two teams are the only teams currently representing the entire state of Michigan at the Elite Travel level.

The Detroit Diesel plays all local league games under the Detroit Women's Baseball League (DWBL), elite/travel games under the Great Lakes Women's Baseball League (GLWBL), some elite/travel games under the associations affiliated with leagues in other regions and all tournaments under various associations (American Women's Baseball Federation and AAU Women's Baseball).
