Our End of Season Awards was Friday August 21 and we had a huge turnout. Good food, friends and swimming topped off with medals and trophies, what a way to end the summer! Our Skimmer Swimmers did some amazing things this season and should all be so proud of themselves. The first to be aknowledged were our Pollywog graduates. The participants in Coach Cali's Pollywog Program were our newest and youngest team members and nearly every one moved up to be a Skimmer Swimmer. Several of them participated in multiple meets with many PBs, one earned an "A" time and more than a couple were responsible for us being able to field a competitive relay in the U6 divison. The 2009 Pollywog grads were:
Ruby Belisario, Aimee Blackwood, Breanna Fraire, Taylor Holcomb, Kylie Johnson, Samantha Hendrickson, Owen Preece, Christopher Santos, Emma VanDenBaard, Robbie Wilkinson and Eliyah Sipsy.
We had 30 swimmers this season who earned bag/towel times. These times are the fastest of our Team Award Times. All these swimmers have at least one time that is well below an "A" time. As a reward they are presented with a team bag or towel embroidered with their name and the team logo. The 2009 Bag/Towel awardees were:
Beverly Ayers, Brendan Barrett, Jenna Brittner, Ryan Burris, Kevin Charvoz, Marcella Daniels, David Darrin-Bascomb, Vincent Despain, Maryfrances, DiMaggio, Kaila Dodson, Megan Donohue, Adrian Michael Dulay, James Ebert, Carter Haines, Shelby Harrison, Fiona James, Cheyenne Lee, Long Le, Shannon McMillan, Marvin Munguia, Carter Osborne, Natalie Perez, Whitney Perez, Matthew Satyadi, Gloria Mia Solorio, Dana Stormes, Christopher Tennow, Haylely Thaning, Anna Wareckiy and Ashlyn Wareckiy.
We award a High Point and a Most Improved trophy in each division and age group for both girls and boys. High Point goes to the swimmer who earned the most points for the team in either the "A" or "B" division. The Most Improved awards go to the swimmers with the largest improvement in time from the first swim of the season until the end. These swimmers also must compete in a minimum of six meets for the team. The winners of the 2009 High Point awards were:
For the "A" Division: Jenna Brittner and David Darrin-Bascomb in 6 and Unders; Maryfrances DiMaggio and James Ebert in 7/8s; Natalie Perez and Vincent Despain in 9/10s; Beverly Ayers and Zachary Ziel in 11/12s; Whitney Perez and Marvin Munguia in 13/14s and Fiona James and Brendan Barrett in 15/18s.

In addition to High Point and Most Improved our team has three special awards that go to swimmers who show tremendous team spirit, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, work ethic and improvement. These swimmers are also role models to their teammates and examples to our swimming community of what it means to be a Skimmer Swimmer. They are selected by the coaches and board for their outstanding contributions to the team.
The Coaches Award for 2009 went to:
Marvin Munguia and Taylor Brittner
The Scott Chapman Award was created in honor of Scott Chapman. Scott joined the Skimmers in 1985 at the age of 7. He was the oldest son in the Chapman family and big brother to Julia Chapman, former Skimmer and ADS head coach. Scott's favorite stroke was Butterfly. He swam until age 14 and then played water polo for his high school. Scott is remembered as always having fun and being enthusiastic about swimming. He was a fish in the water, always happy and loved to swim. He was competitive, yet had tremendous sportsmanship. He always strived to improve and encouraged others to always do their best. Tragically. Scott Chapman died August 8, 1996 in a car accident. The Antioch Delta Skimmers recognize Scott as a true Skimmer swimmer whose values and dedication to swimming embody all that we hope our swimmers strive for. Each year the Antioch Delta Skimmers recognize one all-around exceptional ADS swimmer and award him or her with the Chapman Award. The Chapman Award is given to a swimmer who is dedicated to swimming, always striving to do their best to improve, great role model to others and willing and eager to accept coaching and direction.
The Scott Chapman Memorial Award for 2009 went to:
Alyson Albanese
The next honorees were our County Qualifiers. These swimmers all swam at least one time in one stroke that earned them a spot at the Contra Costa County Championships. This is the largest and most prestigious meet in the county and the times for qualification change and get faster each year. We had ten swimmers qualify in 2009.
Brendan Barrett, Fiona James, Carter Haines, Chris Tennow, Matthew Satyadi, Marvin Munguia, Beverly Ayers, Anna Wareckiy, Natalie Perez and Jenna Brittner.
We had two records set this season and each was broken more than once. Our record breakers for 2009 were;
Brendan Barrett in the 100 Fly for 15/18 boys and our 15/18 boys Medley Relay team of Brendan Barrett, Christopher Tennow, Carter Haines and Jeremy LaDue. These boys are the fastest in our team's 51 year history!!!
Our final award goes to the swimmers who have been members of our team for at least seven consecutive years with at least one year in 15/18s. The recipients of the Hall of Fame award for 2009 were:
Ileana Munguia, Carter Haines and Jeremy LaDue.
Good job all Skimmer Swimmers. Thank you to all our parent volunteers. We would have no team and no award winners without all the work that goes on behind the scenes by all our wonderful Skimmer Supporters.
Please take the time to fill out the end of season survey so we can continue to do what works and improve where we need to.
