The Delaware Valley Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading League that represents Delaware County and Northern Delaware, has advanced two of its members to the Pop Warner Regional semi-finals, two steps away for a trip to Florida and the Pop Warner National Championships.
The Dynasty Dragons came into Sunday’s game undefeated and winning their first two Pop Warner regional games in overtime. They took on the Quakertown Panthers from Bux-Mont Conference of Pop Warner at the Pop Warner facility in Philadelphia at the Bill Gambriel Field located in Frankford section of Philadelphia. The Panthers began the scoring when they marched the ball down field and scored on a third and one from the one yard line. In the second quarter the Dynasty Dragons woke up and began to move the football at will. Running back Yazid Davis took a handoff from quarterback Adam Jackson and ran up the middle for a 50 yard touchdown run. That run opened the flood gates for the onslaught by the Dragons. On their next possession the Dragons drove the football down the field just before halftime and scored on a screen pass from quarterback Mike Hand to running back John Davis from 30 yards out and the extra point was good to make the score 13 – 6 at halftime.
After halftime the Dragons took the kickoff and used the power running and smart passing to move the football down the field using all but two minutes of the third quarter. They were able to score on a play up the middle by quarterback Mike Hand from 38 yards out make the score 19 – 6. The rest of the third quarter was played even. In the fourth quarter the Dragons caused a turnover by the Quakertown Panthers at their own 45 yard line. The Dragons moved the ball using ball control and short passing they finished the scoring on a counter play to the left by running back Cemos Cargna from 40 yards out to complete the scoring at 25 - 6. The Dynasty Dragons are moving on to play the Wall Knights from New Jersey in the semi-final game of the junior pee wee division. The winner of this game moves on to the finals and the opportunity to advance to Orlando, Florida and play in the Pop Warner National Championship.
In the second game played by a team from Delaware Valley Pop Warner, the first year member of Delaware Valley Pop Warner, the Chester Township Cougars took on the Lansdale Cannoneers. The hard hitting Cougars made their mark on the first play of the game when the Cannoneers with the ball ran an off tackle run the hard hit caused everyone in the crowd to aaawwww when defensive back Tahjee Duncan came up and made the jarring hit on the Cannoneer running back. In the first quarter the Lansdale Cannoneers moved the ball down field and score a touchdown using the run. They kicked the extra point which made the score 8 – 0. On the kickoff the Cougars kick returner Malcolm Young took the kickoff at the 35 yard line got a block and ran up the right sideline all the way for a touchdown. The point after run was successful that made the score 7 – 8.
The Cannoneers received the kickoff and on the first play from scrimmage the Cougars Tahjee Duncan intercepted the pass and ran it 60 yards for the touchdown. The route was on. The Cougars defense began in assert itself by not allowing another first down for the Lansdale Cannoneers, in the first half. The speed of the Cougars began to show as they were able to make the adjustments and contain all outside running that the Cannoneers wanted to do. In the second half the Chester Township Cougars received the kickoff, they marched the ball down field on an eleven play 75 yard drive using the passing arm of quarterback Darell Jackson and the running of their running backs the Cougars were able to score on a 10 yard pass play from Darell Jackson to Malcolm Young. The Delaware Valley Pop Warner League has been playing for five years now and their league president Raymond Barnes says that they have won two regional championships at the midget level in 2006 and 2007 at the division 3 level. Mr. Barnes says that in 2008 they moved up to the division 2 level and have been competing at this level since moving up. The Delaware Valley Pop Warner league has six football age groups along with Challenger for special needs youth and flag football for the five year olds not ready for tackle football. Mr. Barnes says the six levels ranges from ages five to 15 years old. Their birth date cutoff date is July 31st of each year.
The scholastics coordinator Mrs. Tanetha Ross-Johnson has reported that Delaware Valley Pop Warner has five young men and women seeking the regional and national scholastic honors from Pop Warner. She expects that there may be two sure members making the regional or national Pop Warner All American team which rewards the youth for their success in the classrooms and on the field.

The 2009 Del-Valley Pop Warner Champions have been crown this past weekend. Good Job to all of our 2009 participants and CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners of the 2009 and cheer season.
On October 3rd Del-Valley Pop Warner held its first cheer competition at Upper Darby High School. It was a tremendous event and all of the young ladies that took part had a wonderful time. The Children Advancing Toward Success (CATS) had their tiney mite squad participate in the demonstration division the young ladies were well received and put together a wonderful program. In the mitey mite division the YAP Trojans young ladies performed well with their routine in demonstrating flips, hand stands cartwheels and stunts. That was a great job by both of our demonstration squads. In the jr. peewee division, the Dynasty Dragons were outstanding in their routine with filps, motion and movements. They were really one of a kind. The Saints were another outstanding, these girls really put together a show for eveyone to admire. There were smiles and loud chants along with good movement and the crowd really enjoyed the Saints. As the saying goes in New Orleans, the Saints really came marching in. In the midget division it was a real battle between two great teams, the CATS and the Trojans. The CATS put together a great routine that encompassed jumps, chants and a little dance. They were really good and performed well in their routine. The judges were pleased with their routine. The Trojans performed and really set a new standard for Del-Valley Cheer. The women of Troy put together great jumps, dances and pyramids were breath taking. In the end the Trojans were the champs in the midget division followed by the CATS.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE COACHES, PARENTS AND ESPECIALLY THE PARTICIPANTS FOR MAKING THIS FIRST CHEER COMPETITON A GREAT SUCCESS.

This past weekend on November 1st we saw the crowning of three new champions and a back to back champion get crowned again.
In the fashion that has been their trademark all year, the Dynasty Dragons jr. peewee and the Chester Township Cougars fought tooth and nail in this championship game. On a rainy muddy day their wasn't too much outside running one could do but the Dragons were able to score a touchdown at the begining of the fourth quarter when the mandatory play rule took effect and the Cougars were trying to get their players into the game. With the Cougars having the football they fumbled on their own 2 yard line and the Dragons picked it up and took it into the endzone for a touchdown. The extra point was good. Later in the quarter the Cougars drove the ball down field and on a sweep left they were able to got into the endzone from 40 yards out to make the score 6-7. A penalty on the extra point try cause the Cougars to miss their extra point and the game ended with the Dragons winning the championship 7-6. Now They will meet the Enon Eagles on Wednesday November 3, 2009 at Bill Gambriel Field home of the Frankford Chargers. The game will start promtly at 6:30 PM. We are asking all teams to come out and support the Dragons in their effort reach the Pop Warner national champinship game in Orlando, Florida
