Our recreational league strives to teach the basics of soccer and continually improve upon those skills, nourish feeling of self-esteem and accomplishment, teach good sportsmanship and fair play, and give children the opportunity to have fun, socialize, and cooperate as a team with others.

The Spring 2009 DeKalb Youth Soccer Season has been cancelled.

We were recently informed that as a result of the slowing economic conditions, particularly in the automotive industry, our long-time league sponsor, Shiroki North America, will not be able to host the soccer league this spring.

The DeKalb Youth Soccer League is forever grateful and appreciative for everything that the people of Shiroki North America have done in support of the children and youth of our community with their generous financial support and the use of their excellent facilities for the past 17 consecutive seasons.  We thank them and hope that this business slow-down will be short lived.

In light of this situation, preparations are currently underway to insure that the league will have a place to play for the Fall 2009 season.

An agreement was previously reached with the DeKalb County Board of Education to utilize the property adjacent to Northside Elementary School as a permanent home for our community soccer league.  However, the property will require extensive work before it is suitable to use for soccer fields.

A work day is being planned for a Saturday in March for all soccer families and interested parties to come to the site (after the machine work is done) to help pick up rocks and make final preparations prior to sowing the grass seed.  Check back here for details on this work day.

Since there is much work to be done, and we are working with very limited funding, we need to tap any available resources to insure that the fields are complete and ready for use by August.  If you can assist with any of the needs listed below, please contact either Jeremy Judkins at jtjudkin@dtccom.net or Chris Cudney at chriscudney@dtccom.net and let them know where you can help.

Machine work (Tractor, disk, harrow, box blade, etc.)

Surveying or Grade Checking 

Turf establishment (Grass seed, straw)

Concrete pad and Utility work for concession building (late spring or summer)

Perimeter fencing

We regret that the circumstances have forced us to cancel the upcoming season, but we also trust that as a result of this situation, the soccer program in DeKalb County will be stronger and will have a permanent facility to serve the youth of our community for many years to come.
