"Sports are not merely the exercise of muscles, but the school of moral values and of training in courage, in perseverance, and in overcoming laziness and carelessness. There is no doubt that these values are of greatest interest for the formation of a personality which considers sports not an end in itself but as a means to total and harmonious physical, moral and social development"-- Pope John Paul II

INTRAMURAL FUTSAL LEAGUE

Sacred Heart CYO will hosting an intramural futsal league this spring. Games will be played on one weeknight each week. There will be one skills and rules clinic before the seasons starts and then games will begin. There will be no practices beyond the clinic. The league is tentatively scheduled to run from late March through the middle of May.

The league is open to all Sacred Heart Parish children in grades 3rd thru 6th. This includes all SH School and Religious Education students. There are no rule restrictions that prohibit playing in our futsal league and other sports.

Futsal is the fastest growing indoor sport in the world. It's like indoor soccer except it's played on a gym floor. There are no boards to hit the ball against like with traditional indoor soccer. It's an excellent way to improve speed, agility and footwork for all sports, not just soccer.

Please see this video link for a good example of what the sport looks like: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-Y8r1vMHDg

You may sign up right now by clicking the link at the top of this page or fill out the a form in the school office.

The cost is $35 which will include a t-shirt. The only other requirements are players must wear shin guards and a pair of flat-bottomed athletic shoes. Everything else will be provided

R.I.P COACH STRETANSKI

We are deeply saddened to report that good friend, mentor, father and Sacred Heart Varsity Boys Basketball Coach, Rick Stretanski has passed away.

Rick loved to coach, loved basketball but most of all he loved the kids. He was a big man with a big heart and he will be sorely missed.

Somewhere in heaven we imagine a beautiful basketball court with Rick up there teaching "Read and React". Soar brother Rick!

CYO BOARD MEETING
Your CYO Board of Governors meets once every month at 7 PM in the Parish Office. Our next meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 7th 2012. Our meetings are (generally) the first Monday of every month, are announced here, open and all are invited to attend.

BECOME A GYM SPONSOR.
The Sacred Heart CYO sports program is seeking sponsors to raise money to offset the cost of fielding teams, maintaining and updating facilities, purchasing equipment and buying uniforms. If you, or somebody you know (be it a business or family) wish to become a sponsor and be placed on our large gym banner for a whole year, please contact Joe Caruso at 313-378-7805 or jaruso@gmail.com

2010/2011 TEAM SIZE GUIDELINES
Parents, we have posted our guidelines for determining team sizes. As many of you are aware, our no-cut policy has caused some of our teams to get rather large. In some cases we have not had enough athletes to adequately field a team. These new guidelines will hopefully remedy this and make for a better playing experience for all of our athletes. It is important that all parents read the guidelines. They are posted in the Handouts link to the left.

FORMS
Parents, all the forms needed to play a CYO sport at Sacred Heart are located in the Handouts link to the left. Please download them, fill them out and give them to the coach or A.D. prior to the first practice. If you're child has not played a sport at Sacred Heart this school year he or she will need a sports physical prior to the first practice.
