Hello 2012 Redskin parents and players!!!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, welcome the players and parents to the 2012 football season and to make you aware of several upcoming events related to the team.

For the parents and players who have not played with or met me before, I'd like to share a little information about me, my staff and our coaching philosophy.  I have been coaching youth football since 1998 when I began as a coach in the Pop Warner of Northern Virginia league.  I bring a wealth of football coaching experience, having coached at all levels from ankle biters to Midget (14 and 15 year-old) teams and having severed in a variety of capacities to include Football Commissioner, Association President and President of Pop Warner of Northern Virginia. My Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator Coach William Lyle has an equally impressive resume.  Coach Lyle began coaching youth football before me, has been the head coach of many teams and has an impeccable record of creating winners both on and off the football field.  Coach Roy Jones is the newcomer to our staff.  He assisted as our statistician last year and begins his coaching career with us this year.  I have already began to work with Coach Jones and am sure that he will quickly make his mark as an excellent youth football coach and a roll model to our young boys.  Coach Lyle and I are coming off of back to back championship seasons, first with the 2010 undefeated champion 125 Pound Patriots football team and last year with a incredible season where we took the 125 Pound Redskins from worst place in the league with an 0 and 8 record in 2010 to the league champions in 2011.

While I have enjoyed success at all levels with four undefeated seasons and I am very proud of my winning record, I am most proud of the impact I have had on the lives of the young men that I have had the opportunity to meet and coach.  My coaching philosophy has been and will remain to develop winners not only on the field but in all walks of life. This season, we will focus on teaching the kids to play football and also on teaching them life lessons about attitude, determination, discipline and character.  These are lessons that will benefit them far beyond the parameters of the football field, in school, at work and in all walks of life.

My tradition is to kick off each season with a parent/player event at the Great Waves Park on Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia. This allows an opportunity for the players to socialize and get to know or reacquaint themselves with each other.  It also gives the parents the chance to meet one another and for me to answer any questions you have about the coming season.  This year's
kickoff parent/player event will be held on July 7 at the Great Waves Park and we will meet at 1:00 pm at the park benches in the area to the left of the batting cages.  Please do not go directly to the Wave Pool entrance.  They will not let anyone in without a ticket which I will have with me.  We will have a very brief meeting (less than 30 minutes) to bring new and returning players and parents up to speed and to answer any questions you may have.   Afterwards you will receive pool passes and will be free to enjoy the Wave Pool for the remainder of the day.   I will pick up the tab for the players and one parent for a maximum of 35 guests.  Please reply to this email to let me know if you and/or your child will attend so that I can have an accurate headcount.  If you are unable to attend but would like for your child to attend please let me know so that I can arrange for a ride for them.  You can learn more about Great Waves Park by visiting their website at the following link http://www.nvrpa.org/park/cameron_run/content/great_waves_waterpark
