Nick Vincent has been drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 19th round.  The junior from Long Beach State University now has the option of signing with the local club or go back to Long Beach for his senior season.  He played a pivotal role out of the bullpen for the Dirtbags, who were consistently ranked in the top 10 this past season.  The former Valley League Pitcher of the Year made it to Long Beach by way of Palomar Junior College, where he was a 1st Team All Pacific Coast selection for two years.

James Meador and Drew Muren are spending their summer in the Cape

Cape Cod is the site of the top collegiate summer baseball league in the nation.  This league is only for the best of the best.  This is where millions of dollars are made as collegiate ball players look to improve their draft stock.  What an honor for Ramona High School to have two former Bulldogs playing in it at the same time.  James Meador is playing for the Brewster Whitecaps, and Drew Muren is playing for the Hyannis Mets.  Click on the team name to visit the official site.  Here is another neat site that follows the prestigious Cape Cod League - Right Field Fog.  Meador and Muren are actually not the first Bulldogs to participate in the Cape, as Neil Jamison did so during his time at Long Beach State recently.

Vincent punches out Ryan Braun to cap tremendous 2012 season

Nick Vincent picked a nice way to end his rookie campaign with the Padres.  He held the lead and struck out last year's National League MVP Ryan Braun en route to another Padre victory.  Nick played a pivotal role in the Padres' second half success, as his ERA of 1.71 was good for 2nd on the club.  He also had a stretch of 14 consecutive appearances out of the bullpen without giving up a run.  Click here to see Nick's official Padres stats page that includes some really neat videos of his outings.  Well done Nick!!!!!

Vincent to start season at AAA

Nick Vincent will begin the 2012 season in AAA Tucson for the Padres.  Nick was making a run at the final open spot in the bullpen for the Pads when he severely sprained his ankle stepping on a ball in the bullpen before an appearance against the Reds.  He had tossed three scoreless innings in the spring with four strikeouts up to that point.  Fortunately however, Nick had already caught the eye of manager Bud Black...."It's a bummer for Nick," Padres manager Bud Black said. "I like Nick. He has made a solid impression this spring (pitching three scoreless innings)."  Let's hope Nick heals quickly and gets back on track for success.  We are all so very proud of you Nick!!!!
