Testimonial from former Hot Shots Player - Jalil Anibaba, Professional Soccer Player, Chicago Fire

My name is Jalil Anibaba and I grew up in Davis, California while I am currently a professional soccer player for the Chicago Fire. Growing up in Davis I of course played soccer, but I also played other sports such as basketball through which I learned tremendously valuable lessons that I have been able to translate to soccer. With that said, there have been very few people who have positively influenced my life to the extent that Coach Dino Clark has. He raised me through the ranks of basketball in Davis as if I was a son of his own. He taught me important life lessons, which greatly enhanced the level of my maturation. He is someone that I will always look up to and to say the least he has done great things for the sport of basketball in Davis, especially through his Hot Shots program.

I met Coach Dino Clark in jr. high school, like most of the local Davis kids who know him. However, the difference between my relationship with Dino and that of everyone else who simply knew him as the campus disciplinarian is that Dino took me in under his gracious wing. I started playing basketball at Emerson Jr. High School in 8th grade and Dino was my first coach. From then on I played for Dino through my freshman year of high school. During the school season he coached at Emerson and throughout the remainder of the calander year he dedicated his time forming a program he called "Hot Shots" for which I also participated in.

Hot Shots is a travel team if you will and from that experience I truly learned what performing at high level of the sport was all about. Coach Dino took us all over the West Coast to play against some of the best competition in the country. Through doing this I learned how to not only compete and lead my peers, but I also learned how to conduct myself on the road away from home as well as the importance of professionalism. All of these lessons are still vital to me as they have now become part of my life as a professional athlete.

I was there for the very beginning, when Dino started Hot Shots. Back when I was playing he expressed to me where he wanted to take the program and in the last ten years Coach Dino has truly taken his vision to the next level in providing a system that allows kids to excel on the court while learning the importance of hard work, leadership, brotherhood, professionalism, and a winning mentality.

It goes without saying, that Dino's knowledge for the game is extremely high, but what makes him a fantastic coach and mentor is that he is willing to go the extra length and take the extra hour to build his players into successful adults. I could never thank Coach Dino enough for the time he spent enhancing my adolescent experience in Davis, but more importantly for helping me to become the man I am today.
