Our Mission

The objective of the Danville Junior Basketball League is to represent our community ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and reverence, so that our youth may grow to be finer citizens.  It is the league’s objective to provide an opportunity for improvement in basketball skills and a “team play” mentality to all players.

The purpose of the recreational league is to teach basketball skills and develop basketball players, not outstanding teams.  The success of our recreational league should be judged on the progress of individuals rather than a team’s win-loss record.  Each coach’s role is to develop the individual to his/her greatest potential through the teaching of fundamental skills.  A coach who diverts from the curriculum in order to win games, cheats both the players and the league.

DJBL Boys Travel Basketball Tryouts

The Danville Junior Basketball League will be holding tryouts for 3rd through 6th grade boys travel teams Saturday September 18 and Sunday September 19.  The Saturday tryout will be held at the Danville High School gymnasium.  Due to a prior scheduling commitment, the Sunday tryout will be held at the Danville North Elementary gymnasium.  Currently the plan is to form two teams each in the 5th and 6th grades and one team each in the 3rd and 4th grades.  This may change depending on the number and ability of boys who try out.  Players who try out and are not selected for the travel team may be invited to practice with the team as alternates.  These players will also participate in the DJBL recreational league.

Times for tryout:         Grade 3           3-4 PM (Both days)

Grade 4           4-5 PM (Both days)

Grade 5           5-6 PM (Both days)

Grade 6           6-7 PM (Both days)

Please plan for your son to attend both days of tryouts if at all possible.  Your child must participate in at least one day of tryouts to be eligible for selection to the travel team.

Travel team games are played on Sunday afternoons in Hendricks County and the south and west side of Indianapolis.  The games begin Nov 14 and finish in mid-March.  Due to holidays and Super Bowl Sunday, the league does not hold games on: 11/28, 12/19, 12/26, or 2/6.  Practices will begin in October and allowances will be made for fall sports such as football and soccer.  If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Wills at 745-6853.

Danville Junior Basketball League Registrations to Begin

The first in person opportunity to register your daughter or son to play in the Danville Junior basketball league will be Saturday, August 14, at Ellis Park near the football tower, from 9:00 AM to Noon.  Fees are unchanged from last year, at $50 for the recreational league, and an additional $45 if selected for a league travel team.  We will accept registrations from girls and boys, grades kindergarten through 6th grade, however, as in past seasons, it is most important to get girls registered quickly, as girls travel team tryouts are Saturday/Sunday, August 21 & 22, and the girls recreational league will begin immediately after labor day.

Registration may also be accomplished by downloading a registration form from the DJBL website, www.danvillebasketball.com, filling it out and enclosing it in an envelope with a check for the registration fee, and giving it to the school secretary in the office at your child’s school, where they are picked up and processed periodically.  You will receive an email (or telephone) confirmation if you register in this manner.

If you have questions, please check the website above, respond to this email, or contact Ed Wills, DJBL president, at 745-6853.

Monday, August 2
Recreational League Coaches Needed

DJBL needs volunteer coaches for the girls and boys recreational league teams.  The most immediate need is for coaches for the girls league, set to begin immediately after Labor Day.  On the registration form, you will find a box to check to indicate your interest.  If you have not coached before, or have limited coaching experience, you will find several learning resources, including a coaching manual and links to videos of various training exercises and drills on the DJBL website, www.danvillebasketball.com.  In addition, the initial sessions in each of the leagues will be devoted in part to specific basketball drills and fundamentals, demonstrated by experienced basketball coaching personnel, so you will have the opportunity for on-the-job learning.  If you have any interest at all, please volunteer to help, as our primary goal in the rec league is for the kids to have fun, learn some basketball, and get some exercise.  The ability to interact with the kids and for everyone to have fun is far more important that your initial level of basketball knowledge and coaching experience.

If you have questions, please check the website above, respond to this email, or contact Ed Wills, DJBL president, at 745-6853.
