Soccer Banquet
OUr soccer banquet will be on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 6pm at Jason's church again this year. Each family needs to be bring a side dish or a dessert.
All players are to turn in a gear bag, shorts, wind suit and jerseys that belong to me. Keep your jersey if you bought it. Please remember to bring these items to me at the banquet.

VICTORY #2!!!!!!!

Our first Dogwood District Win!!!!!! Michael Foust and Daniel Rogers scored their first high school career goals. Donnie Ingram also scored and Tyler Adkins scored his first high school goal. Casey Saunders and Nathan Keller got their second shutout. Donnie Ingram had three assists and Ricky Ferguson notched an assist.
We are currently 2-3 for the season and 1-0 in the district. We are tied for first with Nelson Co.

IT'S A VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1-0 against Patrick County!!!!! Donnie Ingram scored on a penalty kick. Nathan Keller and Casey Saunders netted the shutout in goal. This could not have been done without the excellent defense played by Michael Foust, Mike Allison, Jacob Irby, Jacob Marshall, Jason Sudduth, and Dane Driskill. Michael Foust and Dane Driskill each had a non-goalie save. Isaac Clement and Matt Tate played well at mid-field as did Juan Robertson and Tony Staton. KJ Jones and Ricky Ferguson played well on offense. DRHS outshot PCHS 21-9. Keller had 3 saves and Saunders had 2 saves.
Every player on this team had a part in this win. This include the teammates who did not get into the match.
Congratulations guys, you deserve this win. Enjoy your day today. Remember how this feels.

Hampden Sydney College Summer Camp 2009
Hampden Sydney College is hosting its Elite Soccer Camp again on 7/19-22/09. This is an excellent camp and you really get the most bang for your buck. The coaching staff at this camp is second to none and consists of local college and ODP coaches. What a great way to get some exposure to the college game. Several DRHS players went last summer and they loved it.

University of North Carolina Summer 2009 Soccer Camp
UNC is hosting its summer soccer camp on 7/11-14/09 and 7/15-18/09. Clink on the link or picture to go to the site. UNC-Need I say more??? Learn the game from one of the best universities in the nation. The men's team is the 2008 runner-up for the NCAA Soccer Championship.

Commonwealth Soccer Program
Commonwealth Soccer Programs is coming back to Southside Soccer Club and Blairs Community Center for a day camp on 7/13-17/09. Click the link for details. This is a great camp especially for the high school player. It is as good as any college residential camp and the costs is less. It is truly a great value for what you get. I recommend this camp to any local high school player.

Passing and Receiving
A good player knows what he wants to do with the ball before he receives it and what he will do if his plan is no longer an option once he receives it. Watch David Beckham play. He knows where he wants to receive the ball and where he wants to pass it before he ever touches the ball. HE THINKS AHEAD, STAYS COOL AND UNDER CONTROL AND ANTICIPATES!!!!!

How Do We Become A Better Team????
You all have heard me say this many times-now the message is coming from other coaches too. If you were at Blast tryouts this past Saturday you heard Cary Wright say this. The Nelson Co coach said this tonight-if you want to become better players and a better team, you have to play soccer year round. This is not a game that you just pick up and play. You get better by repetition of the skills and being in game situations where you have to make decisions. Va High School League rules state that I cannot be involved in out of season practice. This does not mean that you cant. You all need to get together during the off season and play. You need to play organized soccer somewhere this fall-be it Blast or rec. I firmly believe this is how you as a team will get out of the bottom and start winning the matches you should be winning. I as the coach cannot make you better in the short time we have together as a team-I can polish you some and give you some new ideas-each player has to make the commitment to become better by playing this wonderful game all the time. Why is GWHS so good??? They get together all year and play. Why is Nelson Co so good? They get together and play all year long. This is not only a commitment from the players but from the parents too because you are going to have to be responsible for transportation of your player to where ever the kids decide to get together and play. One last observation-if you believe none of this then go to Dan Daniels park after work or on the weekends. See who is playing. I bet you will see familiar faces. There are folks of all ages playing soccer and they will let you play too. Ask Kevin.

Here is how you do it. I will retire your number if you are voted Dogwood Player of the Year by the coaches of the district, make the Virginia All State 1st Team or become a High School All American-any team. Pretty tough goal, but I believe hard work can make dreams become reality.

Adidas Wind Suits
Adidas Wind Suits have been ordered for each player on the boys team. They are not yours to keep and will have to be turned in at the end of the season. These suits have been ordered for you by Jeff and Robyn Keller in honor of Jeff's mother, Shirley Keller, who passed away recently. This is a very nice thing the Kellers have done for this team.
