GO WILDCATS

2ND PLACE IN THE DOGWOOD REGULAR SEASON!!!!!  THIS IS A SCHOOL RECORD HIGHEST PLACEMENT FOR OUR SOCCER TEAM.   WE DRAW A BYE IN THE QUARTERFINALS OF THE DISTRICT TOURNAMENT.  WE PLAY AT HOME AT 6PM ON WEDNESDAY 5/23/13 AGAINST THE WINNER OF APPOMATTOX/GALILEO.  WE NEED FAN SUPPORT.  A WIN WEDNESDAY GETS US TO THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AND A REGIONIAL STATE TOURNAMENT BIRTH.

RESULTS FROM BENGAL BASH WERE POSITIVE

The results of the Bengal Bash were positive.  We tied Patrick Co 1-1, beat Carroll Co 3-1  and lost to Jefferson Forest 1-0.  Austin Lewis, Krish Patel, Trey Stevens, and Seth Dunlap scored for Dan River.  We saw things that we need to work on but I am very pleased with how we played considering we had to have tryouts for a week and the weather has not cooperated.

Our home match with Magna Vista has been moved to 3/18/13 at 6:30pm.

Our away match with Magna Vista is still on 3/20/13 and game time moved to 5:30pm at the Smith River Complex in Martinsville Va.

The Torch Was Passed.

The Torch was passed-Please read Edit | Reply
Last night-5/23/11-Dan River High School and Altavista High School played in a quarter final Dogwood District match. The seniors on Dan River passed the torch to the underclassmen and future players to come at Dan River. They played the best match this school has ever seen and that is saying a lot considering we lost in PK's and this group of seniors have set so many school records as a team and individually. I was blessed as the coach to be a part of this and to see the torched passed on. I have heard about this but never experienced it and it is heart touching. It is a memory I will always carry and cherish. These seniors-Matt Tate, Casey Saunders, Nathan Keller, Dane Driskill, Patrick Ridge, Tony Staton, and Ricky Ferguson-gave everything they had to win this match. They battled from behind to tie the match, they bled, sweated and cramped up to the point they had nothing left. They knew that more was needed. They played 4 overtime periods and went to PK's to decide the match. The final passing of the torch occurred between senior Keeper Casey Saunders and Freshman keeper Drew Gunnell. Drew was in the goal the second half because DRHS needed Saunders on the field. We were down 2 injuries and 4 due to exams. As the overtimes continued I pulled Drew and Casey to the side to question them about the PK's that seemed to be coming. Drew said he was ready and Casey said-Coach let him have it-One of the few times in is career he called me coach instead of Dad-The goal is his now. At that moment the torch was passed. Casey went on to score his first high school goal in PK's and Drew became the next great keeper at DRHS.

Here is how you do it.  I will retire your number if you are voted Dogwood Player of the Year by the coaches of the district, make the Virginia All State 1st Team  or become a High School All American-any team.  Pretty tough goal, but I believe hard work can make dreams become reality.
