Drew Provence Receives Baseball Scholarship to North Greenville College
Drew Provence
Drew with Parents and D4 Staff

Drew Provence is living proof that you do not have to play high school baseball to receive a college baseball scholarship!!

Drew will be attending North Greenville College in Greenville, South Carolina, on a baseball scholarship.   He attended Whitewater High School, graduating this past May, but did not play baseball there.

Drew played for Brooks Area Little League when he was younger and then went on to play several years in the District 4 Big League Baseball program.   He was a vital part of the 2008 District 4 Big League State Championship team.

NGU is an NCAA Division II program and first year head baseball coach, Travis Henson, looks forward to Drew being a big part of his first freshman class.

2008 Big League State Champions - D4
2008 Georgia State Big League Baseball Champions - D4

The local All Star Team representing Georgia District 4 Big League Baseball completed a run in the tournament by winning the District Championship against West Point, Georgia in a best of three series.  They followed that up by winning the Georgia State Championship, defeating Georgia District 7 by a score of 21 – 5 in the finals.

The following 16 players represented the counties of Fayette, Coweta, Spalding and Fulton: Derek Abrams, Randy Beadling, Sam Mittleman, Eric Schroder, Jason Allen, Steven Davis, Casey McDonald, Drew Provence, Eddie Storm, Matt Harmon, Joseph Johnson, Scott Lanier, Aaron Patten, Stephen Pope, Jesse Amtmann and Taylor Mathusek.  They were Managed by Gary Snider and coached by Ralph Storm, Tommy Thomas, and Rick Ferguson.

The Georgia State Champs traveled to Ft. Lauderdale, FL to participate in the Southern Region Big League Baseball Tournament July 18 - 20 against teams representing Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, South Carolina and West Virginia.  The team lost the first game 8 - 4 to Tennessee and the second 5 - 2 to a very good Florida team from Tampa.  District 4 came back to beat West Virginia 11 - 6 in the last game of pool play, but was unable to move on as West Virginia and Florida competed in the Semi Finals from Pool A when a three way tie for second in the pool came down to a formula where they were two runs short for the tournament.

Big League Baseball is gearing up for their fall league by putting on an open U18 Wood Bat Tournament September 12 -14 at Peachtree City BSC.  Fall league games will begin September 21.  For more information and to download registration forms for the fall league, click on Handouts.

To see who the District 4 and West Point Unsung Heroes are, check the Tournament News page.

Fall Registration Now Underway

Registration for Fall baseball is now available and will be taken through September 8.

Players in District 4 have the opportunity to register for the Big League program either as individuals who will be placed on teams or as a group of players who want to play on the same team.

The purpose of the Big League program is not only to improve baseball skills, but also for just having fun!

We play under the Big League rules published in the "Little League" rule book.  Our players, managers, and coaches are insured for accidents and liability.  We provide quality umpires for the games.

We schedule double headers on Sunday afternoons and may also play some Saturday games, depending on the number of teams participating.   We will also have the opportunity to travel to north Georgia for some extra games.

The full Calendar of Events for 2008 can be downloaded from the Handouts section, General Information.
