MISSION STATEMENT: Our efforts are centered on a program to educate youth in the sport of soccer and engender within each player a life-long love for the game of soccer. This educational program has many aspects. The Clinic emphasizes individual fundamentals and the fun of being part of a team. The Recreational Leagues are structured by skill level to provide equal opportunities for as many as possible. It's hard to educate our youth effectively until we have first educated our teachers, in this case, our coaches. The Coaching Committee has training films, FIFA Law Books, and other written material that are available. The most effective training aid is individual attendance at a coaching clinic. CYSL offers a coaching clinic in late August. Coaches can also attend licensing clinics through MSYSA. Visit their website for additional information, www.msysa.org. Soccer education involves the balanced teaching of individual skills and team tactics. Winning is simply the result of superiority in execution. We are more interested in seeing youngsters experience the joy in reaching their full potential as individuals and contributing members of their team than we are in competition. Winning is transient, but good sportmanship, physical fitness, team spirit -- these elements endure.
