Report on 2008 CPLL Division Championships
2008 Cardinals - NL Div Champions
2008 Cardinals - NL Division Champions

On Sunday afternoon June 15, 2008, the Cardinals, coached by Steve Dewar and Bill Franklin, defeated the Rockies (winners of the Round Robin portion of the tournament) in the second game of the division finals, to repeat as NL Majors division champions for the fourth year in a row.  All three NL Majors div. teams sent representatives to both of Cypress Park LL’s All Star teams in 2008, enjoying very competitive games during the District 5 Tournaments from June 21st into the second week of July.

Unlike their namesake MLB club in Seattle, the AL Majors Division Mariners enjoyed an excellent 2008 season, with many players in their first season of play at this level.  Coached by Manuel Fonseca and Bruce Moss, on Saturday Afternoon June 14th the Mariners prevailed in the championship game over the White Sox,ably coached by Neil Chrystal.  In the Consolation Final game played earlier that day, the Bowen Island Tigers, under Paul Welsh and Jason Schubert, played the Yankees, coached by Hugh Cameron and Charlie Cleghorn.  The Yankees won in a closely fought contest.

The Minors Division championship game was held Thursday evening June 12th.  The Yankees, coached by Kelly Lendvoy, became 2008 division champions.

Congratulations and thank you to all the players, coaches, managers, umpires, division coordinators and parents who contributed to the success of the 2008 season.

LLB Refines Pitching Rules for 2008

Commencing with the 2007 season, pitchers in all divisions of Little League, from age 7 to 18, have had specific pitch count limits for each game, based on their age.  Little League Baseball (Williamsport) has refined those rules slightly, and have introduced a new pitch count limit - 50 pitches per day - for players whose league age is 7 or 8 (a possibility in Minors division).  A new provision has been added, prohibiting a player who has been removed as a pitcher in a game from playing the position of catcher for the remainder of that day.  The automatic intentional walk was also removed, meaning that to do so the pitcher must deliver four balls to the plate - which count in the pitches delivered limit - so there is now an added cost to giving a batter an intentional walk.  In Minors and AL Majors divisions, CPLL's own house rules prohibit intentional walks.

For more information, click on the underlined heading above, which will take you to the relevant page on the Little League Baseball website which discusses these changes.  Specifics of the 2008 rule changes can be downloaded by clicking on the underlined link below labelled "2008 Regular Season LLB Rule Changes."   (There are also some changes to the 2008 tournament rules, which concern only all star team coaches.)

Becasue of the pitch count limits, scorekeeping is now an essential function of every team from Minors division through Big League (saavy coaches already know this), so COACHES before games begin you will need to identify and enlist the parents you will be relying on to keep score!

Also included as a handout (link underlined below) is LLB's 2007 Guide to the New Pitch Count Regulations.  The number of pitches delivered in a game determines the amount of rest the player must have before being eligible to pitch again. Please note that some parts of this guide may be affected slightly by the rule refinements coming into effect this season.

Unfortunately, due to an outrageous amount of SPAM and an excesive number of virus and spyware infected computers among our members (because their kids surf the net indiscriminately and unwittingly load nasty files onto their hard drives), we can no longer post e-mail addresses on this publicly accessible website.
