Red Devils Defeat SI Lightning 2-1 In Battle Of Undefeateds
In a hard fought, closely marked game; the Red Devils defeated a strong Staten Island Lightning team 2-1. The Red Devils scored first on a throw-in from Danielle to Ashley. Ashley neatly headed the ball into the goal for the 1-0 lead. The Lightning tied the game when #10, their talented center mid, got free and sent a pass to the right wing. Kayla came out and made a point blank save on the strikers shot. The rebound went left into the box and the Lightning player beat the Devils to the ball and put it into the empty net. The Devils made it 2-1 on a play almost identical to their first goal. Crissy put a throw-in into the box which Ava headed in for the winning goal. The rest of the game was back and forth with the Devils having a slight edge in play. Both keepers came up with some big saves down the stretch. Kayla in particular made a couple of huge saves late to perserve the win. The Devils finished the season undefeated and in first place. Next weeks game is a 9 AM bye week rematch between the two teams. If these two meet in the finals, it could be a war.
