Central Virginia Youth Roller Hockey League: Matthew Barton Award

Matthew Barton Award
Matthew Barton

Matthew Barton was a 10 year old member of the CVYRHL when he lost his battle to Lymphoblastic Lymphoma on April 17, 1998.  In November of 1997, Matthew was a winner of the league MVP award.

The Matthew Barton Award is an award in his honor.  It is given to the overall top player in the Peewee League after the Fall and Winter seasons.  The award is voted on by the coaches and commissioners of the league.  Winners of this award are MVP level players that demonstrate great sportsmanship, are mentors to less experience players, understand how to play team hockey, and generally have an assist total that demonstrates their desire to involve the entire team.
