CVU Rage are Champions at 2009 California Spring Cup!

CVU Rage Champions!
2009 ASC California Spring Cup Champions

CVU White G95 traveled to Anaheim this past weekend to participate in the 2009 California Spring Cup hosted by Anaheim Soccer Club. CVU began the tournament with a hard fought 2-0 win over South Coast Bayern, the first goal coming late in the 1st half off a shot by Kylee that rocketed inside the far post. The second goal came late in the 2nd half with Courtney beating three defenders in the corner and carrying the ball into the penalty area where she blast a shot that was far too hot for the keeper to hang on to. The ball escaped her hands and found it's way across the goal line.

CVU's second game came against a classy Fireballs team from Oregon City, Oregon. CVU started out a bit slow but before the half Courtney was able to find the back of the net with her head off of a corner kick and shortly after that Haley was able to find the back of the net with a header of her own off of a free kick. The 2nd half found CVU dominating the game with Courtney once again scoring on a header from another corner kick. Meagan had all three assists, two on corners and one on a free kick.

After the first two games CVU had assured themselves a spot in the Championship game. They used their first game on Sunday to experiment with a few players in different positions and to rest the legs of a few players.

The Championship game was no experiment though. The girls came to play. Once again CVU was facing South Coast Bayern. This would be the third time the two teams had met this season, with the two previous meetings ending in 2-0 wins for CVU. No doubt that Bayern was out to settle a grudge.

CVU started somewhat lethargic but the first half was pretty back and forth, both teams advancing and attacking and having to play solid defense. Bayern made the decision to switch from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 in the middle of the first half which threw the CVU girls off and caused some problems. Adjustments on how to play were made at halftime and CVU responded greatly. The girls dominated the majority of the 2nd half, with Courtney scoring a goal off a corner kick. Things got a bit scary in the last 10 minutes as Bayern was pressing hard but the deal was sealed with less than minute to go when Courtney found herself on a breakaway. From an angle she shot low and to the far post, the keeper did really well to get down and get a hand on the ball but Julia was there to clean it up and finish it off. CVU finished with a 2-0 win in the Championship game.

All the girls played well. Way to go CVU!

CVU Rage are Finalists at 2008 OC Kick-Off Classic

Just two weeks after winning the 2008 FC Irvine Showcase, CVU Rage traveled back to Irvine to participate in the 2008 Orange County Kick-Off Classic. Once again the girls were treated to quality reffing, great weather and beautiful fields.

CVU began the tournament with a convincing 3-1 win over the Wolfpack Wolverines. Their second game came against a tough Chelsea SC Black team, and after a somewhat sloppy first half CVU was able to pull it together and finish with a 3-0 win. Sunday morning saw CVU matched up against Gold Coast X-treme Heat, the game ending with a resounding 4-1 win in favor of CVU.

The championship game came against a tough PVSC Exiles Black team. The girls worked hard and had their opportunities, but at the end of regulation the score was tied at 0-0. For the second straight tournament CVU found themselves in a penalty shootout to decide the Championship. In their last tournament CVU took the Championship in a PK shootout but this time it was not meant to be. The Exiles went on to win the shootout and CVU finished as the Finalists.

In the two 2008 summer tournaments that CVU Rage participated in they scored 20 goals and allowed just 4, finishing one tournament as Champions and the other as Finalists. Way to go CVU!

CVU White G95 traveled to Irvine this past weekend to participate in the 2008 FC Irvine Showcase. CVU started Saturday’s games off with a 2-0 win over South Coast Bayern and ended the day with a 5-1 win over the Wolves. On Sunday morning CVU clashed with MVSC Riptide. Both teams were tied with 18 points and it would be the winner of this game that moved on to the Champioinship. After a hard fought first half the score was all even at 0-0. The second half belonged to CVU, eventually wearing down the Riptide and earning a 2-0 win. The championship game came against a tough Freedom FC team. CVU took an early 1-0 lead but Freedom came back to tie the game with only four minutes left in regulation. The teams then played fourteen minutes of overtime and with the game still tied they moved into penalty kicks. After five shooters the teams were tied at three kicks apiece. Freedom’s sixth shot went off the crossbar and CVU took advantage. Julia stepped up and put the ball in the back of the net and the game was over. CVU were the 2008 FC Irvine Showcase Champions.

Rage are Finalists at 2008 CHSA Holiday Cup

Anaheim
2008 CHSA Holiday Cup Finalists
CVU White G95 traveled to Anaheim Hills to participate in the 2008 CHSA Holiday Cup this past weekend and walked away with some bumps, bruises and hardware. The girls won their first two games, both by a score of 1-0, over Scripps United and Canyon PSA. Having won their first two games they had earned a spot in the championship game, however, the team lost Courtney and Kylee to knee injuries in the process. With tired legs and only two subs the girls faced a tough TVSA Hawks team in the championship game. CVU went down 0-2 early in the first half but was able to get a goal back just before the half on a great free kick by Meagan. With some adjustments made at halftime and a renewed energy the girls were able to disrupt the Hawks rhythm and were able to tie the game late in the 2nd half with a header goal by Meagan that found its way over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar. The game went into Golden Goal overtime and unfortunately the Hawks found the back of the net just before the end of the first overtime. It was an outstanding effort by the entire CVU team throughout the entire tournament. Great job girls! In their last six tournaments the girls have made it to three championship games (winning the CVU Tournament of Champions) and made the round of 32 in League Cup.

They finished the second weekend with a 3-0 win over the silver PVSC Breakers. Rage advanced to the Round of 32, ultimately getting knocked out of the tournament by eventual semi-finalists West Coast FC. The girls pitched four shutouts and were one of only five bronze teams to make the Round of 32.

North vs. South
2007 North vs. South Finalists

Rage traveled to San Luis Obispo to take part in the 2007 North vs. South Summer Classic held on the weekend of August 11th & 12th. The weather was good, the fields were good and the soccer was definately good.

In their first tournament back since summer break Rage got off to a good start with a 2-1 win over Dublin Premier and then put on an offensive clinic with a 6-0 win over SMISO FC Stampede. Rage then found themselves going up against a tough Crusaders FC team in the semi-finals. Both teams played well, but Rage put in a strong performance and left the field with a 2-0 win.

The championship game was played on a very nice field at Cuesta College against a very athletic and technically-strong Bullard FC team. It was a very exciting and competitive game to watch with both teams having their chances on goal. In the end Rage came up just short losing 1-2 to Bullard FC. Overall it was a great weekend. Rage scored 11 goals, gave up just 3, made it to the championship game in two straight touranaments and the girls and their parents all had fun in the process.
