THE STING STORY.................
This team, The STING, was formed in 1999 to get outstanding high school age baseball players from around Central Virginia recognized and noticed in an effort to send them on to College Baseball and beyond. We've had some players compete in the USA Junior Olympics, be selected to prestigious invitation only showcases like Perfect Game, Blue - Grey, The Commonweath Games & East Cobb. So far we have had 34 Sting players involved with College baseball in the past eight years and even had one get drafted by the pro's !

Four Sting Members chosen for USA Junior Olympics Team
Cameron Scott, Danny Crane. Chris Feagan, and Dillon Sheads have been chosen to be part of the "Most Valuable Player" out of Crofton MD. The Team will travel to Jupiter Florida in June to compete in the 2003 USA Junior Olympics. On the way back home the foursom will stop off at Myrtle Beach and participate in the MVP showcase at Coastal Carolina. Congratulations to all four players!

3 Sting Players attend 2004 USSSA 18-U Major World Series
Sting players Dillon Sheads, Danny Crane, & Chris Feagan spent the week of July 25 - August 1 2004 at the USSSA 18-U Major World Series held in Nashville, TN playing for the Maryland Patriots. The Patriots finished in third place in the World Series playing teams from all over the USA during a week of intense play.
Congratulations to the three for representing Virginia at the World Series.

Culpeper's Clay Horn Transfers To Eastern Mennonite University
Update, Clay Horn has transfered from Longwood University to Eastern Mennonite University, Clay joins former teammates Jameson, & Andrew.
Clay Horn, a Senior at Culpeper County High School and LH pitcher for the Blue Devils & "Sting", has signed to NCAA Div. II Belmont Abbey College near Charlotte, NC. He offically signed a National Letter of Intent during the November signing period. Clay, a 6'6" lefty just got back from the World Wood Bat Championship sponsored by Perfect Game in Jupiter, Florida on October 22-26, 2002. Clay made a great appearance and was seen by many scouts. Clay is the second "Sting" player to receive a baseball scholarship this fall, Matt Neal will be attending Presbyterian College located about an hour away from Clay at Belmont Abbey. Former "Sting" Pitcher/First Baseman and Strasburg High School standout Matt Neal has signed with Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. Matt has received a baseball scholarship to Presbyterian College. He signed a National Letter of Intent during the November signing period. Presbyterian College is a Division II College located about 1 hour south of Charlotte NC. and has been ranked in the D-II top 20 3 times in the last 5 years. · Mentally and physically tough. Good size at 6'4" 210.
· Good hitter and projects well with power potential.
· Solid defensively at first base. Good infield actions, quick reflexes, and he stretches well making good picks at first base.
· Must increase his velocity in order to establish a fast ball as a plus pitch. He has to throw consistently in the middle 80's to get the opportunity to pitch at the college level.
· Expect that one of the regional universities such as Virginia Tech, William and Mary, or ODU are looking very closely at Matt to fill their needs at first base.

MATT BURCH RECEIVES NAVAL ACADEMY APPOINTMENT
Matt Burch, Senior Class of 2007 MIF Notre Dame Academy has received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. Matt has played on the Sting the past two years and also played with Team MVP at the Junior Olympics in Jupiter Florida in June of 2005. Matt, a team leader and outstanding student (VP National Honor Society) has been on two Div II Virginia Independent School League State Championship teams while at Notre Dame. We are very proud to have the Sting represented in the United States Navy and wish Matt much success as a Midshipman and Navy baseball player !

Danny Crane MIF/P Culpeper CO High School, Danny Has played for the Sting for 4 years, also Culpeper American Legion Post 330, Most Valuable Player, the Maryland Patriots and the Culpeper Red Devils in the Apple Valley League in the Summer of 2005 & 2006.
He has made trips to the USA Junior Olympics in Jupiter FL with team MVP in 2003 as well as the USSSA 18-U World Series in the summer of 2004 with the MD Patriots, in the Series, the Patriots finished in the top three teams in the Country.
Danny was recognized as the Blue Devils defensive player of the year at the shortstop position in 2005. He led his team in RBI's in 2004, and in 2005, he once again led the Blue Devils in RBI's as well as homeruns.

CAMERON SCOTT COMMITTS TO D-I ODU
Cameron earned 2nd Team all District SS in 2003 while at CCHS and received Most Valuable Offensive Player for the Blue Devils that year before transferring to Notre Dame Academy.
While at Notre Dame Academy, he helped lead Notre Dame to back to back VISBA (VA Independent Schools)Division II State Championships and received 1st Team All State SS honors in 2004 & 2005 and runner up VISBA Player of the Year in 2005. Cameron played in the Virginia Commonwealth Games.He received an invitation to play in Perfect Game at North Carolina Chapel Hill where he played for the White Sox.
He received an invitation from the Montréal Expos to compete in the Area Code Games at the University of Virginia, where he played for the East Team. He played for All Star Baseball out of Pennsylvania at the Perfect Game Wooden Bat Tournament in Florida held in October. Cameron also received letters of interest from the Seattle Mariners, Saint Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles.

COREY OVERHOLTZER COMMITS TO D-I UNC-GREENSBORO
Corey Overholtzer OF/P Arundel HS/Riverdale Baptist HS has committed to play baseball at UNC-Greensboro. Corey,Dillon, Chris, & Danny were teammates on the MVP Junior Olympic Team in 2003 and with the Maryland Patriots & Sting in 2004. In High School Corey Led the 2006 Wildcats to a 23-3 record and their 10th state title in school history and first since 2001...finished the year ranked No. 25 nationally by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper...selected as an honorable mention on the 2006 Louisville Slugger High School All American team...was named first team All-Arundel County, all-state and all-league...also selected first team All-Metro by the Baltimore Sun and honorable mention All-Met by the Washington Post in 2006...hit .480 with a county-record six triples, four doubles, five homers, 36 runs, 23 RBIs and 16 walks as the Wildcats' leadoff hitter...finished his career at Arundel with the highest career average (.542) and the most triples (10) in school history...had the honor of playing in the Brooks Robinson High School All-Star game at Camden Yards. We wish Corey much continued success !

Dillon Sheads,Culpeper Co HS 1B/LHP, and longtime Sting player has committed to play baseball at Randolph Macon College near Richmond, VA. Dillon traveled to Jupiter, FL in 2003 and played in the USA JR Olympics with Team MVP and in the summer of 2004 played for the Maryland Patriots.The Patriots traveled to Nashville to the USSSA World Series and finished in third place.
Dillon has played summer ball in 2005 & 2006 for the Culpeper Red Devils in the Apple Valley League. Congratulations to Dillon and we wish him much success.

Courtland High School standout and former Sting player Mike Lenox, RHP/C has joined the Virginia Wesleyan College baseball team. Mike, while at Courtland, was named in the same year an all Battlefield District first team pitcher and catcher. Mike pitched and played third base for the Sting in 2004 and earlier in the year during one of the last high school games broke his right hand in a collision at home plate as the catcher. Mike rehabed the summer of 2004 and came back strong during the fall of 2004 with the Sting. He also recorded one of the highest batting averages for the Sting. We wish Mike much success !

COFFEY TRANSFERS TO CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY
Culpeper's RHP Bryan Coffey was drafted by the Montreal Expos (6/'02) and played for the Clark Griffith Fauquier "Gators", this summer (2004) Bryan is playing for the Culpeper "Red Devils" in the Apple Valley League. He accepted an offer from Louisburg College. Louisburg is a juco located about 30 miles from Raleigh North Carolina.
Louisburg Baseball is recognized as one of the top juco teams in the Nation. The Hurricanes have won 24 conference or regional championships and been to the NJCAA College World Series 10 times since 1971.
Bryan is another success story from the "Sting" in it's continuing tradition of sending players onto College Baseball and beyond. Good Luck Bryan.
Update: 2-01-05, Bryan has completed two years at Louisburg and has transfered to Christopher Newport University as a pitcher.

Former Culpeper County High School standout Luther Snow graduated from St. Marys with a degree in economics. Luther played for the St Marys Seahawks under Coach Lew Jenkins. Luther is currently a police officer for the Town of Culpeper.
Nick Richards transfered from Shepherd WVA to UVA-Wise and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
Congratulations to both of these former "Stingers" on the continuation of their baseball and professional careers.
