Tony Gwynn Jr. & Friends Partners with Chula Vista American Little League
to Offer Youth Baseball Camp during the Holiday Season
Kids Will Spend Four Days with Tony Gwynn Jr. Learning the Importance of Balancing Education, Sports And Healthy Baseball Practice (Chula Vista, Calif., November 12, 2009): Chula Vista American Little League in partnership with Tony Gwynn Jr. & Friends will be holding a four-day Holiday Youth Baseball Camp for kids ages 5 to14. From Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 to Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, Tony Gwynn Jr., other minor leaguers and Coach Jay Sundahl of the Bullpen Baseball Academy will provide campers with on-field baseball instruction that will consist of hitting, fielding, pitching, base running and sliding. The Holiday Youth Baseball Camp will not only show kids baseball techniques, but Tony Gwynn Jr. will share some personal stories in an effort to promote a healthy holiday, the importance of getting an education and balancing school and sports.
“I think it’s safe to say we’re all thrilled that Tony Gwynn Jr. and the rest of his crew has chosen our community to share their skills and expertise” said Ken Peterson, vice president of Chula Vista American Little League.
“Between Tony Gwynn Jr, other major baseball players and Coach Jay, campers are going to get a truly unique baseball learning experience that they’re definitely going to want on their wish lists this year.”
To launch this healthy holiday campaign, Tony Gwynn Jr. will be giving school assembly talks to over 1,500 kids across three Chula Vista school campuses. The assemblies will be on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the following times and locations:
- 8.45 am: Hedenkemp Elementary -
- 9:30am East Palomar St., Chula Vista, CA,91913
- 10:30 am: Eastlake Middle School - 900 Duncan Ranch Rd., Chula Vista, CA 91914
- 01:45 pm: Salt Creek Elementary - 1055 Hunte Pkwy, Chula Vista, CA 91914
“As a kid, I thought of it backwards. I can remember thinking how being good at sports was going to be an easy way out of doing homework,” said Tony Gwynn Jr. “However, I was blessed to have great mentors around me that would explain why it was important to get a good education. Now, I just want to be that mentor to someone else and emphasize the element of a good balance.”
The Holiday Youth Baseball Camp will be held at the Sweetwater Little League Complex. Parents can register their kids online at www.bullpenbaseballacademy.com. Cost is $199 per child if registered before or on Dec. 20 or $250 on Dec. 21 at the field. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
