Mercy College Softball Adds Trio from Connecticut to Incoming Class
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Head Softball Coach Jacqui Huffman announced that Ali Truss (Southington, CT), Kimberly Curry (Bristol, CT) and Amanda McPhee (Bristol, CT) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Mercy College and join the Mavericks beginning this fall.
Truss is a 5-foot-6 infielder/outfielder out of Saint Paul Catholic High School where she earned four varsity letters. As a senior this past spring, she batted .410 on her way to All-State and All-Conference honors, as well as a Northwest Conference All-Academic selection. Truss was also an All-State and All-Conference selection as a junior. She played her summer ball with the Connecticut Pink Panthers and the Connecticut Eliminators, and was a four-year member of the Spanish Honor Society.
"We are extremely lucky to have Ali join our program," said Huffman. "She will be an added benefit to both the infield and outfield. Ali is one of Connecticut's top softball players and I'm very excited to watch her grow over the next few years. She is going to be fun to watch."
A 5-foot-2 catcher/infielder from Bristol Central High School, Curry was a four-year letterwinner, earning All-Conference honors in 2007. During her senior campaign she batted .281 with 11 runs batted in, five doubles, and a triple. Curry was also a three-time All-Academic selection, earned a spot on the honor roll, and was Vice President of the National Art Honor Society. She also played with the Connecticut Pink Panthers, Connecticut Tradition, and Connecticut Rapids.
"Kim is going to a big addition to our defense this year," said Huffman. "She is able to catch and also play the infield. She and some of the other girls have played together, so our team already has chemistry. I'm looking forward to Kim making an immediate impact."
McPhee, a 5-foot-2 infielder from Bristol Central High School, was a four-year letterwinner, helping her squad to a pair of State Runner-up finishes in 2004-05. As a junior in 2006, she batted .306 with 13 runs scored and seven stolen bases. McPhee followed up with a senior campaign in which she posted a .329 batting average with 13 runs batted in, 20 runs scored, and four stolen bases as she earned All-Conference honors. McPhee also played with the Connecticut Pink Panthers.
"Amanda is one of those players that you never know what's going to come next," said Huffman. "She is very aggressive and quick and will add a tremendous amount to both our offense and defense."
