ALMA ESCOBAR QUALIFIES FOR THE CALIFORNIA STATE MEET
Originally the alternate for the 3200 meters, Alma Escobar knew almost immediately that Corona del Mar's Annie St. Geme was dropping the event at the CIF Finals. Giving her a renewed outlook on the season and second chance allowed Alma to make the most of the opportunity as she qualified to the State Meet for the 2nd year in a row. She is the very first Corona High athlete to qualify for the State Meet twice now as she flies up to Sacramento Friday morning! Pretty much running consistent splits for 7 laps put Alma in great position to qualify as she had to finish in the Top 5 or run under the 10:48.78 standard! She finished with a strong kick, passing two girls in the last 10 meters to finish with a 10:43.99. Twice she has surpassed her best mark from her 2004 season as she was just off her school record of 10:43.04 (run earlier at the Arcadia Invite). She finished with a 36.5 second last 200 meters to secure a berth to the state meet. The plan all season long was her to run her first fresh race at the Masters Meet and to be ready to break some records (and win) the 3200 Meters at the State Meet. The plan is in motion....stay tuned!

Escobar Finishes 14th at the California State Meet
Junior Alma Escobar finished 14th in the 3200 meters at the California State Meet. Traveling up to Sacramento for the 2nd year in a row, Alma became the ONLY Corona High athlete in the school's history to qualify for the State Meet of any kind two years in a row. Alma did not match her time from the previous week and was slightly disappointed with the performance. It had been a long season in which she was asked to race a lot in dual meets to go along with constantly meeting very high expectations. Considering that her season went almost a month longer than most athletes, she was ready for a break. But, she concludes the 2004-2005 academic year with the most successful athletic year of any athlete in schools history
