Technically (explanation below) the team went 4-2 losing in the Semi-Finals. As far as we are concerned they went 5-1. Pool Play started with a game vs the USA Lady Hawks, losing 3-0; the good gals scored 6 in the top of the fourth inning. They simply took too long in doing so as in the bottom half of the inning, with 2 out, nobody on, and a 0-2 count on the number 9 batter, time expired. By the tournament rules, the home team (Lady Hawks) had not completed their at bats so the sc ore reverted to the previous inning. On paper our girls lost 3-0. Game 2 on Saturday was a 10-3 win over the Empire State Huskies, and game three was a 12-0 shutout mercy rule win over the Hit & Run Diamonds 01. So on paper the team went 2-1 and allowed 6 runs. This earned them a 4 seed for Sunday's elimination rounds. Sunday started with a 13-1 3 inning victory over the same Hit& Run Diamonds, then a game off followed by an 18-6 mercy rule victory over the USA Lady Hawks. A redemption of sorts for Saturday's game. Now there was the semi-finals against the #1 seeded East Coast Tsunami who went 3-0-1 on Saturday having picked up the "extra" game due to a 13 team field. The tie was not used in seeding, being their worst game of the day. Things started pretty well for the good gals taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Going up 3-0 in the top of the third, only to be tied after the bottom half inning was completed. After a scoreless fourth, and top of the fifth, the first batter in the bottom of the fifth walked. The second batter put down a nice bunt but was thrown out 5-3 and the runner from first attempted to take third but was gunned down 3-7. Two out, nobody on, tied score! Time expires. Batter 3 reaches on a hit to center despite a valiant sliding attempt at a catch by the centerfielder. 0-1 on the fourth batter was a passed ball allowing the runner to advance to second base. Second pitch resulted in a towering HR well over the left field fence. The good gals loose 5-3. What a game. 62 Runs scored on 46 RBIs, team batting average of .436 and ERA of 1.94. A great way to start our 2013 season!
Monday, January 28 16-U Teal has an Awesome Start Traveling to the Dome in Queensbury NY this past weekend (Jan 26 & 27) our 16-U Teal team had a great time. Going 2-1 on Saturday, they came back on Sunday tearing off three straight wins, including avenging their Saturday loss to the Lady Lightning in the semi-finals, to reach the Championship game. Unfortunately they were defeated 4-0 by the Quebec Rebels for the crown. A well played game that simply went the wrong way for the good gals. First time on a field this season, with limited indoor practices to date, the team did AWESOME! Hopefully this is indicitive of how the 2013 season will play out. 2012 Tournament Season Wrap-up What n interesting and rewarding season.
