Mead Triangle
2009 Upper School Cross Country Theme
This is the pyramid of success. What does it take to be a champion? Research shows that successful people exhibit common characteristics. The Crystal Springs Uplands Cross Country Team is striving to be the very best we can be...we are striving to be CHAMPIONS, not just in Cross Country but in life as well.

C-Stands for “CHAMPION”.
It stands at the top because it is a result of the other characteristics and the result of that foundation.

SS-Stands for “Be a SELF-STARTER”.
Successful people are motivated to get the job done even if they have to do it themselves. In Cross Country, there will be many times where athletes will not be under the constant supervision of the coach. A Champion will get the job done whether the coach is looking or not.

SG-Stands for “SET GOALS”.
Champions know where they are heading because they have a goal that motivates them. The theme for this year deals specifically with this idea. Obstacles will appear and begin to disrupt when there is a lack of focus on the goals to be achieved.

P-Stands for “PRIORITIZE”.
To be a Champion you must prioritize your life. When you are in the classroom that is your priority and when practice starts Cross Country is the priority. Cross Country occupies a very short time in the day. To achieve your very best you will need to be focused during the time that we are at practice.

PST-Stands for “POSITIVE SELF TALK”.
When the going gets tough, what are you saying to yourself? Champions have the ability to see positives in every situation. What do you have control over? Can I control that it is raining and cold? No...then don't spend time dwelling on it. Focus on the things you can control so that you can do your very best on that particular day.

V-Stands for “VISUALIZE”.
The mind is an incredibly powerful organ in the body. If you can see yourself being successful then you have taken a huge step. The positive aspects of visualization are magnified in high stress or pressure situations. As a person sees themselves succeeding in their mind, successes in the real world will follow.

Being a Champion is not easy. It takes determination and focus...and hopefully a lot of fun along the way. If you apply these principles to your season I am convinced that you will accomplish things you didn't think you could do.

Be a Champion - Gryphon Pride!!!
