CSAL: News
Great Volleyball Coach
If the CSAL had a coach of the year award for our sports seasons, I would for sure vote in Jennifer Sandoval. She coaches the JV team from St. Anne's. I officiated her first match this season and then saw her final match of the season on Saturday of the finals. I had seen them throughout the season as well. Evrey match, I mean every match, she never let her kids just hit the ball over the net, she always asked for three hits. Sometimes they did it, and sometimes they were trying but the ball didn't cooperate! They kept at it no matter what their oppponent did (usually hit the ball over with one hit). She was so positive! She has a way of getting the best out of her kids, no bribes, just old fashion hard work! Win of loose, she three hits consistantlly.
She shoud be recognized as the person who's team three hits, no matter what----my coach of the year! She is proof that the JV kids can really play the game of volleyball.

For the 2011-2012 basketball season, All Souls Basketball’s 5th Annual Christmas Tournament to support the All Souls Food Bank generated a donation to the food bank in excess of $1,300. Also, for the 4th year in a row, Mount St. Vincent Home defeated the All Souls basketball players. After the event All Souls hosted a pizza party for all players involved in the game. A special thanks goes to Paul Newland and Bill Roth for coordinating the Mount St. Vincent Home / All Souls basketball game.

In Loving Memory of Rose Vu
Notre Dame is so very thankful for the outpouring of love and support during a difficult time. The family of Rose and the Notre Dame family is overwhelmed with all the prayers and kindness. Rose was an angel on earth and is now an angel in heaven with Jesus.
"As you probably know, ND school had a 6th grader lose her fight against cancer last week. Because of the funeral arrangements, Valarie had to move some game times. STM Girls Varsity D1 was one of the games that was moved. Before the game started, Valarie had the crowd stand for a prayer in honor of Rose, the 6th grader who passed away. After the prayer, the STM players gave the ND players a sign asking GOD to comfort them in their hour of need, and gave them a batch of home made cupcakes. That was a planned gift--
somebody had to bake those cupcakes and make that sign. It was one of the nicest things I have seen happen in this league in a long time! Later, Valarie told me that one of the last things Rose told her parents was that she wanted to bake cupcake for her classmates before she met GOD. HOW GREAT IS THAT!! How great is it that GOD sees needs and takes care of them!
I just wanted to let you know that I was very impressed with the STM players, coaches, and fans. They were a real class act!"

St. John the Baptist Athletic Director, Mary Wellems receives the NCEA Distinguished Teacher Award
Congratulations to Ms. Mary Wellems of St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Longmont who will be receiving the National Catholic Education Association's Distinguished Teacher Award in New Orleans on April 26, 2011. Mary was selected based on her dedication to teaching, athletics, and her fond love of students. Mary is one of twelve teachers among 5,889 Catholic elementary schools in the nation to receive the award this year. Her recommendations mention that she is someone who truly understands what it means to be an educator and embraces it with a full and thankful heart. She inspires and ignites the intellectual curiosity of her students. Mary has a remarkable way of connecting with kids, partly because she is a kid at heart. She does more than teach children; Mary experiences life with them. She is one of those special people who combines the love of Christ with a passion for His children.
This award comes on the heels of Fr. Brian Morrow, also of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, who received the NCEA 2010 Distinguished Pastor Award.

We want to give recognition to St. Rose this past Saturday. They made us feel welcomed at their gym. The score/clock person was very helpful and friendly. We didn't win but we felt like winners there. Thanks again. :-)

Another great example of Play Like a Champion. St. Anne's gym 9:00 am Saturday. Girls Varsity Bracket #4. St. Bernadette vs St. James. The game was close to begin with, but St. James pulled away and was winning by at least 12 points. There were many opportunities for both coaches and players to be upset with the way the play was going, but on every shot and every rebound both coaches were so positive! They both were cheering and it seemed like coaching each others team. Both had very positive things to say about each girl on the floor, whether it was their player or not. They didn't see the "bad" in the play, they only saw the good.
Scott Jensen was the coach for St. James and Jeb Barry was the coach for St. Bernadette. Maybe they could give a coaching clinic on how to be blind to the "bad" and only see the good! I was a great display of what we want this league to be at every level!!!! Thanks, Scott and Jeb for getting the morning off to a great start!
