Thom's 2009 Toy Bowl Picks - --- -- Survey results

SATURDAY  NOVEMBER 7th

6TH GRADE at St. Xavier High School

CSAA DIVISION

11:00 AM

St. Mary Academy

6

St. Martha

0

Monarchs dropped the last regular season game 12 - 0 to the Rocks to setup a three way tie for 1st place
in 6th Grade CSAA division. The good thing is I think the two best team are playing in the Toy Bowl.
This one is a toss-up. I am going with the Monarchs in a defensive gem.

A DIVISION

12:30 PM

St. Stephen Martyr

13

Holy Spirit

27

The Cards are playing their best ball at the end of the season, when you want to be playing your best.
The Falcons have played their best ball all season. The Cards have to bring their "A" game and the
Falcons must play their "B" game for the Cards to win this one. I see the Falcons pulling away in the 2nd
half in this one to get the win.

 AA DIVISION

2:00 PM

Notre Dame Academy

7

St. Edward

23

On paper this one looks like a miss match, but they don't play the game on paper. The Southend
Saints are looking to shorten the game to have a chance in the 4th quarter. The Braves are for real.
They can score by air or by land. Their defense is the best in all 6th grade football.
I see the Braves getting out the gate quick and getting the big prize.

AAA DIVISION

3:30 PM

St. Gabriel

20

St. Agnes

21

Again another team, the Saints, playing their best ball at the end of the season. They need to control
the line of scrimmage vs the Leopards to have a chance. I think they can and this could be
the best game of the day. If healthy the Leopards are very very good, but I think the Saints may have
a few tricks left over from Halloween to show the Leopards. I taking the Saints in an mild upset.

SUNDAY   NOVEMBER 8th

8TH GRADE  at Trinity High School

A DIVISION

1:00 PM

Holy  Spirit

32

St. Mary Academy

23

Again the way it should be, the two best teams playing in the Toy Bowl. At the beginning of the season
I would have called this game a toss-up, Middle of the season I would have given a big nod to the Falcons.
Now at the end of the season the Monarchs are playing better and getting people healthy, so I do see
it as a closer game. The Monarch to win must play mistake free football and they do have to get one or two
turnovers from the Falcons. Holy Spirit has all the weapons and they will have to use them all against the
Monarchs. The Falcons can not let St. Mary's get excited, they need to jump on them quick and hold
down their speed. I see the Falcons pulling away in the 4th quarter.

AA DIVISION

2:30 PM

St. Bernard

20

St. Edward

18

The 8th grade AA division was the most entertaining of all divisions. Six teams could have won
the Toy Bowl  this year. St. Martha and St. Edward had two barn burners this year. In the quarters a
determined St. Raphael team beat a very very good St. Stephen team in OT. League champs St.
Patrick lost a heart breaker to St. Edward in the semis' and St. Bernard had to kick a field goal in
the 2nd OT to fend off the Gaints of St. Raphael to make it to the title game. I have a problem in picking
this game. These are two of my favorite coaching staff's. If I go with the hot team I would go with the
Braves of St. Edward, or I could go with the better skilled team in the Wildcats of St. Bernard.

Wildcats by 2

 AAA DIVISION

4:00 PM

St. Margaret Mary

36

Our Lady of Lourdes

32

The first time these two teams meet I said the Mustangs of St. Margaret Mary would have to control
the speed of the Bearcats from Our Lady of Lourdes. I forgot to say the Bearcats also need to control the
speed of the Mustangs. First time they played on a muddy track and not much scoring, I see the score
board having a few more numbers on it this time. Looks like we are going to have nice weather and a
fast track. This could be one of the games we talk about the next few years, remember 2009 when……..

I am taking the Mustangs in a wild wild one
