About Us

Crossfire Select is a Select soccer program offered by the Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association (LWYSA). It is more competitive than Recreational programs, such as the LWYSA fall soccer program, but less competitive than year round Premier programs such as Crossfire Premier.

Crossfire Select teams are evaluated by coaches and coaching directors and placed in competitive divisions that are appropriate for each individual team. A team that is well placed will win as many matches as they lose and draw any number of matches. In this way players are receiving a proper challenge to help them develop their skills.

Most Crossfire Select teams compete in what is referred to as district play. That is, they compete in local geographic districts against other local teams - typically within a one hour travel radius. Some of the more competitive Crossfire Select teams participate in state leagues which can require travel throughout the state. The table below outlines the different leagues/divisions in which Crossfire Select teams compete, the geography for those leagues and the typical travel requirements.

Note: Crossfire Select is not a part of the Crossfire Premier Club.  It is a program offered by the LWYSA, the parent association of Crossfire Premier, Crossfire Select and Recreational soccer.

Competition and Travel
District 3

Most Crossfire Select teams play in the District 3 Gold divisions (Titanium, Platinum, Emerald, and Klondike). District 3 teams play a 14 match schedule from September to mid-December - 7 home, 7 away.

Travel is generally within a 1 hour radius of Redmond - within King and Pierce counties.  One or two matches per season may require further travel - within a 2 hour radius of Redmond

Commissioner's Youth League (CYL)

Each year two or three of the more competitive Crossfire Select teams compete in this state wide league. Teams play a 14 match schedule from September to mid-December - 7 home, 7 away.

Travel is generally within a 1.5 hour radius of Redmond - within King and Pierce counties. One or two matches per season may require further state-wide travel - within a 3.5 hour radius of Redmond.

WSPL and WYSDL

Each year one or two of the most competitive Crossfire Select teams will attempt to qualify and compete in the state-wide Premier leagues.  Qualifying teams play a 14 match schedule from September to mid-December - 7 home, 7 away.

Qualification occurs over two or three weekends in June through participation in the League Placement Tournament (LPT). Each year each age/sex group LPT is hosted within a single city. The city can be anywhere in the state and teams may find it necessary to stay overnight.

The LPT format is typically a best of 7 format. Teams play until they win or lose 4 matches. Teams winning 4 matches qualify. Teams losing 4 matches do not. Placement of qualified teams is based on the overall number of matches required for that team to win 4 matches. 4 wins in 4 matches results in a high placement. 4 wins in 7 matches still qualifies but results in a lower placement.

Travel is generally within a 1.5 hour radius of Redmond - within King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Two or three matches may require further state-wide travel - within a 6 hour radius of Redmond.
