The high school senior hockey player from St. Croix Lutheran, may show some signs of improvment.......
A female hockey player who suffered a potentially paralyzing injury in a game Friday night may be improving, according to a school official.
Her family says Jenna Privette, an 18-year-old senior from St. Croix Lutheran High School, was checked from behind and immediately had no feeling in her arms and legs.
Apparently there has been improvement. Gene Pfeifer, the president of St. Croix Lutheran, says he talked with Privette's family around 6 p.m. Sunday. Penny Privette, Jenna's mother, told Pfeifer that Jenna now has feeling and some movement in her arms and pain in her back, which is an indication that she may not be permanently paralyzed.
Earlier, Jenna's father Dan Privette told the Associated Press that Jenna's spirits were "up and down." Privette's mother had previously told school officials that images from an MRI reveal no breaks in the bones on Jenna's spine.

Questions regarding concussions? National Dizzy & Balance Center provides answers
|
|
Question 5: What does the recommended ImPACT testing specifically look for?
Answer: Baseline neurophysiological testing (ImPACT) provides an individualized objective evaluation of the concussed athlete's post-injury condition and assists in tracking recovery for safe return to play. The testing program measures multiple aspects of cognitive function, including: attention span, working memory, reaction time and problem solving. Comparing baseline testing with post-injury scores will indicate if an athlete has returned to his or her pre-concussion baseline, and if he or she is appropriate for return to play.
The National Dizzy & Balance Center will answer critical questions regarding concussions, baseline testing and return-to-play medical decisions all season long in the Minnesota Hockey Newsletter. For more information, please visit www.stopdizziness.com or call 952-345-3000.
