First pool game 7/10- 6:00 pm vs. St. Louis Park Win 13-3
The 10 Year Old All Stars opened up the district tourney with a convincing 13-3 win over St. Louis Park on Friday night. Jake Dujmovic pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings (keeping his pitch count down) and Robert Morrissette and McCoy Merkel finished things up in the 3rd and 4th innings (also keeping their pitch count down). 14 batters put 10 runs on the board in the bottom of the 3rd - 8 of them coming with 2 outs. They showed their smarts and speed on the base paths and Jarred McKenna roped a double and triple in the inning, getting 3 RBI. Robert Morrissette had the game winning hit, scoring Christian Eckert in the bottom of the 4th to give them the 10 run victory. Next up is Plymouth/New Hope Saturday at 11am. THSecond pool game 7/11- 11:00 am vs. Plymouth/New Hope Lost 4-1
The 10 year olds faced a tough Plymouth/New Hope team and lost 4-1 today.
The defense was strong with Alex Bui showing great range at 2nd base. They
hope to bounce back and wake up their bats tomorrow against South Tonka in a
crucial match up of 1-1 teams. TH
Third pool game 7/12- 1:00 pm vs. South Tonka Lost 5-2
The 10 year olds lost another tough game today, falling 5-2 against South Tonka. They left runners stranded in scoring position throughout the game and couldn't get the timely hits. Jakey Dujmovic was less than a foot away from hitting a 2-run shot in the 5th inning that would have given them the lead 4-3. Unfortunately, South Tonka made a great relay after a favorable carom off the fence and got the runner out at home trying to score from first. They play Chanhassen on Tuesday. TH
Fourth pool game 7/14- 6:00 pm vs. Chanhassen Win 7-6
The 10 year olds finished pool play against a tough 3-0 Chanhassen team tonight and needed a victory to keep any hope alive to make it into bracket play. Caleb Melloy, McCoy Merkel, and Jonathan Olson were great on the mound and solid defense was behind them all game long. They went into the bottom of the 6th inning down 6-4, but did not give in. 2 great at bats by Jonathan Olson and Alex Bui resulted in walks. With runners on 1st and 2nd and nobody out Caleb Melloy hit a line drive single the loaded the bases. Then it was Christian Eckert who laced a liner into the outfield to tie the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the score tied, Ike Ruff crushed a one hopper to the fence -- walk off double. CR National wins 7-6. What a way to finish!
The only way they'll make it out of pool play is if CR American loses tomorrow to Plymouth/New Hope and allows 15 runs or more. It was a very tough draw for the 10 year olds this year and they showed up in every game.
