2004 ALABAMA STATE CHAMPIONS
2004 Alabama Governor's Cup Champions (U-9 Gold) 2004 Fall Mid-State Challenge Cup Champions (U-10 Gold) 2004 Shelby County Shootout Champions (U-9 Gold) 2004 UAB 3v3 Tournament Champions (U-9) 2005 Auburn Thunder Road Classic Finalists (U-10) 2005 Shelby County Shootout Finalists (U-10) 2005 UAB 3v3 Tournament Champions (U-10) 2005 Spring Mid-State Challenge Cup Champions (U-10A)
Welcome to the CREW house!!! We were the top U-10 team with the American Soccer Club in Birminham, AL - all players playing at least 1 year up and in some cases 2. We ended our run with 1 final tournament win in the Spring 2005 Mid State Challenge Cup U-10A Division. Following that win, we all moved to the American Soccer Club's (now Birmingham United Soccer Association) competitive program, the Jets. In what may be unprecedented in the club's history, everyone on our roster made a Jets team even though we tried out 1 to 2 years early. Ivan Piola was our head coach and his patience and confidence in us has made us champions and given us the tools, both mental and physical, to be successful at the next level. The team had an indomitable spirit and pulled together to reverse the fate of many games, gaining, if not the friendship of our opponents (some of whom hated to lose to the "little kids"), then at least their respect. In the past 3 seasons, we came away with 5 tournament wins including the Shelby County Shootout, back to back Mid State Challenge Cup wins, and a state championship with a 26-3 goal differential. It was a truly special time for not only the kids, but also the parents. Keep checking the site for periodic "Where are they now" updates.

On a personal note, I don't think that in the Spring of 2005 that any of us had an inkling of how special the last few years had been. It's only been recently as I've started looking back that I really appreciated the situation and how remarkable it was across the board. From Ivan's prompt arrival at practice (hmmm hmmm), to the closeness of the boys, to actual success on the pitch, and the good times like Halloween parties at the Taylor's and end of season shindigs at the Carr's it was a fantastic time. As you read this, take a moment and think about it. It means a lot to Stephen and it meant a lot to me and Pam, too. You made it easy on us after moving here in 2003 to fit in and we made great friends through the Crew. Thanks for that and best wishes in the future!!!!

3v3 News
A core group of the Crew, Jordan E., Stephen C., Matthew M., and Carter F. plus a new addition - Bain R. (formerly of the American Fire and Hoover Havoc 96) have formed the Blue Crew - a 3v3 team that will travel this summer competing in the Kick It! series and are hopeful of qualifying for nationals in Orlando next January.
Christopher P. and Joel C. are also on a 97 team seeking much the same thing. Ivan will bw coaching both teams and the Blue Crew have added Coach Chorry to fill in any gaps caused by obligations to multiple Subway franchises.
Good luck to both teams!!!!

06/07 Tryouts Are Here
The former Crew are in the midst of competitve soccer tryouts again - this time with most of them returning to their true age group for the first time in several years. Jordan (Jets 95 Blue) and Trevor (Jets 95 Red) will continue in the 1995 age group for this season, while Thomas and Thornton have opted to move on to football this fall and are forgoing soccer.
The remainder - Matthew, Owen, John Paul, Joel, Stephen, Carter, and Christopher are vying for spots on the Jets 1996 Blue, Red, White, or Gold (usually reserved for 1997's) teams. Good luck, all!
I'll update the site upon the receipt ans acceptance of offers from Birmingham United (formerly American Soccer Club) or other Birmingham area clubs.
Of note, Jack Sommervell, a member of the Crew through the 2003 Fall season, is currently playing on the highest 1996 Boys team for the Tennessee Futbol Club of Franklin, TN.

Fall and Spring Update
It's been quite a while since I updated the site, so here's a quick overview of where all the former Crew stand:
The Jets 95 Gold (John Paul, Carter, Christopher, Joel, Thornton, Owen, Thomas) ended Fall 2005 with a tournament final in Vestavia, a tournament win in Montgomery (including a defeat of the Jets 95 red) and a respectable showing in the State Cup. In the first match of the Spring season, the Gold lost 2-0 to the Jets 95 White on two second half goals.
The Jets 95 Red (Trevor, Matthew, Stephen) came in second in Montgomery and were quarterfinalists in the State Cup, going down 2-0 to the Jets 95 Blue, the eventual State Champions. In the first match of the Spring season, the Red team defeated Hoover Phantoms 95 Blue 1-0 on a late winner from Matthew.
The Jets 95 Blue (Jordan) had a great season dropping only one league game, winning the Atlanta Cup, and the State Cup.
Congratulations, everyone, for a great season in the Fall and (hopefully) a great one in the Spring. Who knows waht tryouts might have in store for all these 96 and 97's that have been playing a year up as long as they can remember!
Go Crew!

We will always miss the Crew experience - from the coaches to the players to the parents, it's been an outstanding ride. Perhaps we'll all be back together again in Fall 2006....

Crew wins U-10 Red (A) Mid-State Challenge Cup!!
The Crew won the Spring edition of the Mid State Challenge Cup to successfully defend their reign as cup holders. While the rematch with the Red Devils did not materialize as they were bracketed in the B group, the schedule did hold a much anticipated reunion with Trussville for the third time this spring.
Group play opened Friday night with a match against a Mountain Brook side we had not faced since 7-0 and 4-1 wins in the spring of 2004. Despite a strong attack from MB, the Crew was able to come out of the match with a 4-2 win.
The scond match, against a recently formed Briarwood side, was equally tough, but the Crew was able to perservere with a 4 - 2 victory in the heat of the afternoon.
Sunday's noon kickoff against Trussville marked the third meeting between the two teams this spring. Both the previous league game and the Shelby County Shootout match had ended in draws, the first 1-1 equalized with a brilliant header in the 49th minute, the second a tough 0 - 0 draw that gave Trussville the Shelby County Shootout Championship on goals against. Trussville also stood as the only team the Crew had never been able to defeat. It was another classic in the series, with both teams showing their contrasting styles and playing good, hard soccer. Well into the second frame the match appeared to be heading towards another 0 - 0 draw, but great passing from the forwards led to winning Crew goal in the 48th minute! The win moved the Crew into the final against our clubmates, the ASC Fire.
The Crew opened and closed the final quickly, gaining a 4 - 0 lead in the first 15 minutes and holding on for the remainder of the match despite some tough attacking play from the Fire. The Crew came away with a win and the American Soccer Club came away with both a first and second place finish in the top tier U-10 division. And both teams representing ASC in the U-10A group were U-9 sides!
Congratulations, Crew!!!

Crew wins UAB 3v3 Tournament... and places second!
The Crew successfully defended their crown as UAB 3v3 Champions against the toughest competition they've ever faced - themselves! After duelling each other to a 0 - 0 draw, both Crew sides entered in the tournament advanced from group play into the finals to face each other for the championship. It was an exciting match that featured one team jumping out to a 3 goal lead only to see the other side come from behind to win 4-3. Congratulations on a fine tournament showing from both teams!

Crew Places Second in Shelby County Shootout U-10 Division
Playing up an age group, as usual, the Crew finished a respectable second in 2005's Shelby County Shootout. Although the Crew secured two victories by a combined 10-2 margin, the two scores allowed would come back to haunt them. Sunday morning started with a game against the always challenging Trussville team that we played to a 1-1 stalemate just a few weeks earlier. In probably the best match of the day across all age groups and what ultimately provewd to be the de facto championship match, the two teams fought to a draw again, this time 0-0. The Crew wrapped up the tourney with a 3-0 win over clubmates the Red Devils, increasing the unbeaten streak against American Soccer Club teams to 9 games dating back to the win over the ASC Fury on May 20, 2004 (the streak is at 10 including indoor results). However, the difference in points due to the two goals allowed on Saturday would ultimately give the champions medals to the Trussville Fire '95 by two points over the Crew. Congratualtions on a well played tournament!

Playing up in the U10 division, the Crew placed second in their first travelling tournament. The boys opened with a hard fought loss to Wings 95 out of Enterprise, but bounced back with a 3-1 win over the Capital City Streaks 95 to close Saturday's action. Sunday began with a 3-0 victory over the host team, the Auburn Thunder, advancing the Crew to the finals for a rematch with Wings. In the finals, the Crew dominated possession but could not capitalize on the many shots on goal while the Wings converted every chance, and the Crew fell 4-2. Congratulations on a great showing in Auburn, Crew!
