The game would remain scoreless until the second overtime when with less than 5 minutes left in the second overtime, senior Dany Galindo broke through the midfield and played a perfectly weighted through ball to senior forward Allan Segura, who would strike it perfectly on the run into upper 90 on the far post for the winning goal.

Mustangs triumph over Trojans; Win District Title

The Creekview Mustangs defeated Newman Smith 2-1 to clinch their first district title since 2005 on Tuesday night at Standridge stadium. Creekview honored their seniors pictured below(Christian Segura, Miguel Romo, Ben Gonzalez, Raul Segovia, Jairo Guzman, Dany Galindo, Alan Segura, Christian Hernandez, and Rogelio Calvillo) on this wet and rainy night. The first half started out well enough with Creekview breaking through early when senior Ben Gonzalez played a ball long that ended up on the foot of  senior Jairo Guzman and he was able to touch it over the onrushing keeper for a 1-0 lead.

The game would change from there however as Creekview seem to abandon their possession play, that played into the hands of Newman Smith as their defenders were able send on long ball one after another against Creekview’s defense. The strategy paid off when the slippery ball went through Creekview’s keeper’s hands and ended up in the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1.

The rain would end at half time but the choppy play continued through the second half, until Creekview went back to controlling the action in the last 15 minutes of play and eventually scoring the winning goal when Senior Alan Segura secured a pass from Jairo and was able to turn and shoot from about 20 yards out and Smith’s keeper was unable to make a played on the ball to the near post.

The jubilant Creekview players and coaches celebrated after the game as they now gear up for the playoffs. This is coach Barboza’s first district championship. Creekview has run their unbeaten streak in district to 8 game and that includes 7 wins with 1 game left to play. Their district record stands at 7-1-1 and their overall record is 12-5-5.

 Congratulations Mustangs!

The Mustangs broke through on the scoreboard when junior midfielder Spencer Soles drew a foul outside the box that senior forward Jairo Guzman was able to convert by shooting under the Higland Park wall and scoring into the near post. Creekview had trouble finishing some quality chances and Highland Park took advantage by scoring the tying goal off a direct kick just outiside the 18.

The Mustangs would storm back with their fast break offense as senior defender Miguel Romo passed out of the back to senior midfielder Rogelio Calvillo, who found Jairo who was checking back, Jairo onetouched a backheel pass to Spencer who was making a run to the goal from the outside, Spencer dribbled into the defense then cutback and found senior forward Dany Galindo out on the wing, Glalindo centered the ball for Jairo, but the ball was deflected to senior midfielder Christian Segura who onetimed a rocket into the back of the net from 8 yards out. That goal would provide the winning margin and eliminate Highland Park from the district race.

Mustangs over Lions 2-1

The Creekview Mustangs defeated the Turner Lions 2-1 in district play on Tuesday night at Blalack stadium in a battle of intra city rivals. With a strong wind blowing from the south, the Mustangs were able to take advantage when senior forward Jairo Guzman picked off a pass from a defender back to the keeper, dribbled by the keeper, and deposited in the net for a 1-0 lead. Creekview however would squander many set play opportunities with the wind at their back, by consistently sailing their long attempts over the crossbar without putting any pressure on the Lion’s defense to defend their goal. This would cost the Mustangs when Turner was able to penetrate the wind and tie the score against the run of play.

In the second half, Turner had momentum and the wind but Creekview played gritty defense and turned the tide when Guzman was able to penetrate the Lion’s defense and play a ball back a across the box that senior midfielder Christian Segura slammed home from 10 yards for the 2-1 lead. From that point on, Creekview was able keep the offensive pressure on the Lions and survive a couple of last minute scares to preserve the 2-1 victory.

The win keeps the Mustangs in first place in the district with a 3-1-1 record and they improve to 9-5-5 overall. The Mustangs look to avenge their lone district loss this Friday against the Colony.

The Scots on the other hand had a distinct height advantage and the Mustangs had to withstand a number of direct kicks and corners in the last five minutes of the game. But the Mustangs did withstand it and came away with an important point.

However Pearce would return the favor minutes later when Guzman was taken down in the box with his back to goal. Guzman converted the PK to put the Mustangs up for good. That score would hold up.

The win moves Creekview's record to 5-4-3 on the season with one more game before the district schedule begins.

Creekview ties Arlington Martin 2-2 in tourney play

The Creekview Mustangs played 5A Arlington Martin to a 2-2 tie in tourney action in Flower Mound on Saturday afternoon. In an entertaining game, the story of the game was one of the two center referees. In additon to countless yellows given out to both teams for actions unknown, the ref also took a goal away from Creekview, where on the video above the player appeared to be onsided by 5 yards.

Creekview started the scoring when Senior Christian Segura found Senior Jairo Guzman with a ball over the top, and Guzman deftly lofted the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net. Creekview would make the score 2-0 when Jairo scored off a direct kick that the keeper misplayed. The kick was earned when Christian and an Arlington player seemed to slightly tangle their feet.

Martin would a put a goal on the board half way thought the second half off a diagonal cross to the far post. Creekview seemed to put the game way when Junior Spencer Soles beat an Arlington Martin defender on the baseline a spun a left footed spinning in the box that alluded all Martin players and was one timed in by Jairo, but Jairo was robbed of his third goal as he was called offside even though his run began 5 yards behind the ball. Soon after Martin tied the game with a direct kick from just outside the box. Keepers Freshman Javier Grande and Senior Raul Segovia, as well as Junior Zack Sudler all made great plays to keep Martin from adding additional goals to their tally

Junior Jairo Guzman played a ball out the corner to Senior Christian Segura, his attempted shot went right to the feet of Senior Christian Hernandez, who brilliantly turned and fired the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Creekview made it 2-0 minutes later as Junior midfielder Spencer Soles took a pass from Senior Alan Segura and megged the defender then sent a rocket past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.
