2005-2006 BROWARD CUP
Dear roller hockey parent:
This letter is to inform you about the upcoming Broward Cup Program that the City of Coconut Creek will be participating in this season. If you have never heard about the Broward Cup, we will provide you with some important information.
The Broward Cup is a tournament designed for highly skilled hockey players that have participated in at least 50% of the practices and games during the regular season. Players will be required to travel at least half of the season to various other cities in Broward County, the other half of the season will be played at Sabal Pines Park. The City does not provide players with transportation for this tournament. We will hold a special tryout date on Saturday, November 20th at 10:00AM for 8-under, 11:00AM for 10-under, 12:00pm for 12-under and 1:00pm for14 and under located at the Sabal Pines roller rinks. All players in the regular season are welcome to try out. Skill alone is not the only requirement to make the team; a player must show good sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play during the regular season. A maximum of 12 players will be allowed to participate on a team. There will be 4 divisions (8, 10, 12, and 14 and under) depending on the amount of children participating and adequate volunteer coaching. If your child is skilled enough to qualify for the Broward Cup Team, there will be an additional cost of $100.00. Players will receive a home and an away jersey, plus the opportunity to represent the City of Coconut Creek in travel tournaments and participate in a Final Double-Elimination Tournament.
As coordinators of the hockey program we would like to inform the parents that the Broward Cup has a different philosophy compared to the Recreational Program. The Broward Cup is very competitive and there may be games where your son/daughter might not get equal playing time as other children on the team. Teams that play in the Broward Cup may get beaten very quickly at a tournament and scoring can get very lopsided.
We would like you as parents to discuss this program thoroughly with your child before you decide to tryout for the Broward Cup. If you and your child feel that this program is something worth competing in, then please feel free to come out in November. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact Yancey Durhamat (954) 545-6603.
