Results from WIAA State Tournament
Both Brad Soots and Brady Hamil had a tough opening round, both lost in matches much closer than the scores showed. Brad Soots was able to wrestle again on Friday in the consolation bracket , but lost in another tough one. The were supported by a great coaching staff, and some wild support from the upper deck (check the Road to State photos).
Results from Sectionals
Brad Soots and Brady Hamil are returning to the Kohl Center in their bid for a Wiaa State title. Brad Soots is the 2007 Sectional Champion at 140 pounds. Brady Hamil placed secend at 171 pounds, which entitles him to the trip north.
Seven other Cougars wrestled in Sectionals. Paul Fetting lost in a close final match, that placed him third at 112 pounds. Both Blair Kessler (215), and Jon Miller (285) placed fourth. Travis Davis, Shaun O'Neill, Ben Ziomek, and Trevor Gregoire lost in their opening matches.

Two Champions, nine total sectional qualifiers. Not bad considering the very tough regional competition this year. Stoughton came in ranked 4th in the state, Verona is very tough, and Parker is having a good year. Stoughton ran away with the team trophy, Parker was a very distant second. All of our Cougars wrestled well, old and new injuries plagued some weight classes, but in general, they came out pretty good.

The Cougars were unable to hold back a strong Parker Viking team, and finished second in the tournament. Although six Cougars made it to the finals, only Brad Soots (140) was able to emerge as conference champion.

Results from Meet with Madison Memorial
The Cougars crushed the visiting Spartans 74-3. Nine Cougars won by pinfall, four others won by major decision or forfeiture. The only loss was a hard fought battle much closer than the match score showed. This was the final meet for the senior Cougars, and they won with pride. The starting weight was 112.
At 112lbs, Paul Fetting made weight, and received a forfeit. At 119lbs, Travis Davis used the patented 'Davis chicken wing' to come up with a pin in 56 seconds. At 125, Troy Davis showed improvement during the match, and won by major decision 16-7. At 130lbs, Ryan Burns made his varsity meet debut with a major decision 15-6. At 135lbs, Shaun o'Neill punished his opponent before pinning him at 3:12. At 140lbs, Brad Soots never gave the guy a chance and pinned him at 1:34. At 145, Dan Yazumbek made an ex-cougar wish he never left by pinning him at 1:01. At 152lbs, Alex Kaster never gave up the battle, but lost 7-13. At 160, Jake Goike looked tough as ever with a 58 second pin. At 171lbs, Brady Hamil had the quick pin of the night in 42 seconds. At 189, Nick Reese manhandled his opponent on to pinning him at 1:40. At 215, Blair Kessler also made weight to receive a forfeit. At 285lbs, Dennis Wimann waited until the second period to pin his opponent at 2:15. At 103lbs, Ryan Coleman finished off the Spartans with a pin at 1:02.

The Cougars ran into an improved Middleton Cardinal program, and suffered their second conference loss of the season. Although this takes any hopes of a co-conference championship, it still leaves the conference tournament wide open. Senior Cougars that are disappointed with the results should be reminded that they are 45-2 during their stint in Big 8 action so far.

The Purple Knight brought a much stronger, fuller team, but were no match for the Cougars. The Beloit JV squad was full, and made for an entertaining pre-meet event. The varsity Cougars dominated early, and finished with seven wins by pin. The Starting weight was 160lbs.
At 160lbs, Jake Goike appeared to have his opponent pinned a few times on his way to a major decision win 10-2. At 171, Brady Hamil had Craig's fastest pin of the night at 65 seconds. At 189lbs, Trevor Gregoire battled back and forth with a very tough wrestler, but won it in the last seconds by takedown, winning 9-8. At 215lbs, Blair Kessler came up with a pin with 2 seconds left of the second period (3:58). At 285, Jon Miller wore down his opponent, and pinned him at 5:09. At 102lbs, Chis Simonson stacked his way to a win by pin at 2:48. At 112lbs, Paul Fetting continued the pinfest at a time of 2:17. The New Streak Begins...
The Cougars dismantled the visiting Regents, winning 13 of 14 matches. The Regents did bring a nearly full roster, maybe wrestling in Madison is still alive. The opening weight class was 152.
At 152lbs, Alex Kaster fought all the way into overtime, and won by a takedown 14-12. At 160, Jake Goike continues to look strong, pinning his opponent at 1:39. At 171lbs, Brady Hamil looked healthier, and came up with a quick pin at 1:19. At 189, Trevor Gregoire ran into a very quick wrestler, but out wrestled him to a win by pinfall at 3:06. At 215lbs, Blair Kessler got the quick pin of the night at 76 seconds. At 275, Jon Miller received a forfeit. At 103lbs, Chris Simonson had to work hard for a 9-4 victory. At 112lbs, Paul Fetting had a great pin at 4:52. At 119lbs, Travis Davis dominated to a major decision 14-6. At 125, Jesse Davila made his Varsity debut, fought hard, but still lost by pinfall. At 130lbs, Troy Davis gave an exciting match and won 19-14. At 135lbs, Brad Soots received a forfeit. At 140lbs, Shaun O'neill contolled all the way to a technicall fall 19-3. The Streak is Over
The Cougars battled hard, but they fell to the Vikings at Parker. As is usually the case, it was an up and down battle all night. All streaks come to an end, and new ones begin. Hold your heads up Cougars, time to start a new streak!
The competetion began at 125lbs, where Chris Weins lost in a hard fought match 5-7. At 130, Troy Davis looked eager, but lost by pinfall. At 135lbs, Brad Soots got the Cougar team score going with a 8-4 decision. At 140, Shaun O'Neill dominated his way to a 19-8 major decision. At 145lbs, Ben Ziomek fought hard, but lost 4-7. At 152lbs, Dan Yazumbek ran into a tough wrestler, and lost 0-14. At 160, Jake Goike restarted the Cougars with a great pin at 3:19. At 171lbs, Brady Hamil got caught in a headsteal, and lost by pinfall. At 189, Trevor Gregoire was running up the score when his opponent got hurt, and couldn't continue. At 189lbs, Blair Kessler didn't need a slap in the face to get motivated, he won by pinfall at 3:25. At Hwt, Jon Miller battled, but came up short 0-1. At 103lbs, Chris Simonson had a tough match, losing by pinfall. At 112lbs, Paul Fetting tried hard, but lost 2-12. At 119lbs, Travis Davis ended the evening, and his opponent with a pin at 1:53.
