Results from WIAA State Tournament
The preliminary round was tough for the Cougars, Brad Soots was the only one to win in that round. Brad lost in the quarter finals, sending all of the Cougars in the consolation bracket.
Shaun O'Neill lost to the eventual 5th place medalist 2-9. That wrestler lost his next match, so Shaun was out of the tournament.
Brad Soots won his first match 4-2. He lost to the eventual champion by pinfall. Brad then lost to the eventual fifth place medalist.
Jake McKillips lost in a very close, until he got pinned match to the eventual third place medalist. Jake then won his second match 8-6. He then lost to the eventual fifth place medalist 5-11.
Brady Hamil ran into the second ranked wrestler in the nation, and lost by pinfall. Brady's second match was a loss to the eventual 5th place medalist.
All four Cougars wrestled hard, and only fell short against medalists. These Cougars showed great sportsmanship on and off the mat. They should be proud of their great year!


Results from Sectionals at Parker
The Cougars once again will be sending four wrestlers to the State Tournament. Shaun O'Neill had a great day, and went from fourth place at Regional, to Sectional Champion! Jake McKillips, Brady Hamil, and Brad Soots all captured second place, and secured a trip to the Kohl Center.

Results from Regionals at Beloit
Stoughton once again showed why they are ranked high in the state, and easily won the regional. The Cougars had several varsity wrestlers sitting out due to injury, and only 13 of 14 weight classes were filled. Conference champions Jake McKillips and Brad Soots also reigned supreme at regionals. Also reaching the finals, but claiming second place were Fritz Westphal, Paul Fetting, and Brady Hamil. Placing third Jon Miller and Trevor Gregoire, Trevor had just been brough up from JV to replace injured Jake Goike. Placing fourth, and advancing to sectionals were Chris Weins, Shaun O'Neill, Blair Kessler, and Dan Yazumbek, who had just been brought up from JV to replace injured Josh McKillips.
In total, 11 Cougars advanced to Sectionals, and improvement over 10 from last year. It showed the team depth and strength when two wrestlers that were JV days before were bale to advance into sectionals.

The Cougars used their team power, and won the conference tournamnet. The Cougars were able to take five individual championships, two more placed second. All but one Cougar placed, but it wasn't for lack of skill, will, or guts, it was an injury.

The Cougars brought up several JV wrestlers, but still stifled the host Spartans with a score of 70-10. The Cougars wrapped up another Big 8 Conference undisputed championship, and remain undefeated in the conference for the last 6 years. The starting weight was 140lbs.
At 140lbs, Alex Kaster lost by major decision 4-16. At 145, Fritz Westphal pinned his opponent at 2:48. At 152lbs, Josh McKillips won by forfeit. At 160, Trevor Gregoire had a nice quick pin at 54 seconds. At 171lbs, Brian Swanson won by forfeit. At 189, Brady Hamil won by forfeit. At 215 lbs, Boyd Maske had the quick pin of the night at 27 seconds. At 275, Tyler James lost by pinfall. At 103lbs, Chris Simonson won by forfeit. At 112, Paul Fetting won by forfeit. The Cougars used their team strength in winning the Invite, even though none were individual champions. The Cougars edged out the Invite host, Monroe, by only 2 points. Five Cougars were in the finals, all placed second to very good (many state ranked) opponents.

The Cougars guaranteed another Big 8 Conference Championship by conquering the visiting Cardinals 54-12. The Cougars were able to win in 11 of 14 matches, including 4 pins, 2 technical falls, 2 major decisions, and an injury default. The starting weight class was 135.
At 135lbs, Brad Soots started the night with a technical fall 18-3. At 140, Fritz Westphal came up with a nice pin at 3:32. At 145lbs, Jake McKillips dominated his way to a tech fall 23-8. At 152, Josh McKillips never gave up, and came up with an upset win 10-9. At 160, Jake Goike lost by major decision 4-14. At 171lbs, Blair Kessler lost by major decision 3-11. At 189, Brady Hamil had the fast pin of the night at 1:21. At 215lbs, Sean Tracey was well ahead, then won by injury default. At 275, Jon Miller lost by major decision 3-11. At 103lbs, Chris Simonson almost got a technical fall, but settled for a major decision 23-9. At 112, Paul Fetting had a great pin at 3:03. At 119lbs, Chris Weins won by major decision 14-1. At 125lbs, Adam Swartz looked tough in a win by pin at 1:54. At 130, Shaun O'Neill once again finished off the night with a win, this time by major decision 13-6.

The Cougars pounced on the Purgolders, and continued the conference winning streak. The Cougars scored 6 pins in a lopsided victory. Starting weight was 112.
At 112lbs, Paul Fetting won by major decision 15-2. At 119, Chris Weins lost by pinfall. At 125lbs, Adam Swartz won by decision 10-4. At 130, Shaun O'Neill won by injury default. The Cougars placed second in a tightly contested tournament. Three of the Cougars were out with illness or injury, that may have been the difference maker according to Coach Kaster. The Cougars were able to fend off a tough Oregon Team, but lost to first place Waterford by 6 points. Four Cougars were Champions, including Sean O'Neill, Jake McKillips, Brad Soots, and Chris Weins. Jake Goike and Jon Miller placed second, Brady Hamil placed third.

The Cougar's JV team looked solid from top to bottom as they took first place, beating cross town rival Parker by 11.5 points. Eleven Cougars gathered first place medals, three more placed second, and one third place.

The Cougars came in second place behind a very tough and experienced Oak Creek team. Oregon took third just one point behind the Cougars. Two Cougars, Brady Hamil(189) and Brad Soots(135) finished in first place. Fritz Westphal(140), Jake McKillips(145), Jon Miller(275), and Jake Goike(160) came in second. Third place takers were Shaun O'Neill(130)and Chris Weins(119). Sean Tracey(215) placed fourth.

The Cougars showed that the Winter break did nothing to slow them down, as they lashed the Lancers 68-8. The Cougars only allowed wins in two weight classes on their way to victory. The starting weight class was 135lbs.
At 135lbs, Brad Soots started the way to victory with a 9-4 decision. At 140, Fritz Westphal increased the lead with a pin at 2:25. At 145lbs, Jake McKillips had the quick pin of the night at 45 seconds. At 152, Dan Yazumbek battled closer than the losing score of 8-16. At 160lbs, Jake Goike dominated to a win by technical fall 16-1. At 171, Blair Kessler won by forfeit. At 189lbs, Brady Hamil showed more improvement with a win by pinfall at 3:22. The Cougars placed 8th in a strong field of 17 teams. Five Cougars placed, but only three medaled.

The Cougars ransacked the Regents with score of 72-0.The Cougars received 5 forfeits, 3 pins, 3 tech falls, and 3 decisions on their way to victory. The starting weight was 103lbs.

The young but mighty Cougars vanquished the Vikings 42-27. After an emotionally encouraging speech by honorary Captains Jake Garvin and Joe Kaster, the Cougars started off the night fast, and finished strong. The starting weight class was 135lbs.
At 135lbs, Brad Soots came up with a surprising upset pin at 5:59. At 140lbs, Fritz Westphal kept the scoring going with a win by pinfall at 3:45. At 145, Jake McKillips controlled his match, winning 4-1. At 152lbs, Josh McKillips battled strongly, but lost by pinfall. at 160, Jake Goike lost in a thriller 5-6. At 171lbs, Brian Swanson wrestled strong, winning 8-4. At 189lbs, Brady Hamil never gave his opponent a chance, pinning him at 4:30. At 215, Sean Tracey scored a 'comeback from behind' win with a pin at 3:37. At 275, Jon Miller battled hard, but lost a close one 0-3. At 103lbs, Chris Simonson lost by pinfall. At 112lbs, Paul Fetting got those points back with a pin at 1:31. At 119, Chris Weins was in a match much closer than the final losing score of 4-11. At 125lbs, Adam Swartz lost by pinfall. At 130lbs, Shaun O'Neill finished off the meet with a great pin at 3:23.

The young Cougar team showed great promise as they crushed the Cardinals 58-12 in the Big 8 season opener at Craig. Coach Jeff Kaster started his Head Coaching career off well with a victory obviously due to fine coaching. The meet started at the 189lb weight class.
At 189lbs, Brady Hamil started the night well with a major decision 13-1. At 215, Sean Tracey battled hard, but came up short 7-8. At 275lbs, Jon Miller looked promising with a pinfall win at 2:52.
