Camarillo PONY Baseball Association:CPBA Jobs

There's a Job for Everyone!

Each and every parent must volunteer some time for our youth to have a quality baseball program. Just so nobody can say, "I don't know what to do", here are some volunteer positions and the responsibilities of each. Most require only a few hours:

The League Commissioner is responsible for the organization and operation of one of ten leagues. Once the season has started, commissioners ensure that all teams adhere to league rules, track league standings, and work closely with the director of umpires.

The League Parent is responsible for passing information from the Team Parent Coordinators and/or Board of Directors to the Team Parents.

The Team Manager is responsible for the overall organization of a team "on the field". The manager is responsible for instructing the players on proper game play. The team manager sets practice locations and times, and maintains the team's equipment.

The Coach assists the manager in running the team, as necessary. The coach is generally someone who is interested in baseball but cannot be available often enough to manage or does not want the responsibility of being a manager.

The Scorekeeper and Scorekeeper's Assistant keep the official scorebook for the team for all games. No experience is required as excellent training is available at the scorekeepers’ clinic. The assistant keeps the scorebook in the absence of the official Scorekeeper.

The Field Layout and Assistant are responsible for preparing the field before their team's games. They water the infield to keep the dust down and chalk the field. If a Field Layout person cannot make it to a game, he/she should arrange for someone else to do the job in his/her absence.

The Field Supervisor ensures that his/her assigned field remains in good condition throughout the season. Seven of our eight ball fields are on school property; so volunteers must perform all maintenance. Each Saturday the field supervisor needs to arrive at the field early — making sure that all gopher holes are filled and that fields are in optimal condition for league play — creating a safe practice and game environment for our players.

The Team Parent is responsible for "off the field" organization of his/her team. His/her duties include scheduling, reminding parents about their snack bar duty, organizing fund-raising activities, informing parents and players of their picture day and opening/closing ceremony schedules, arranging season- end team activities, and expressing gratitude to the team sponsor for making it all possible.

The Refreshment Coordinator schedules the post game refreshments and reminds each parent before their turn. For night games, please suggest they avoid caffeine laden soda pop and high sugar treats like candy bars. This person may also assist the team parent.

The Team Yearbook Coordinator is responsible for gathering photos of the team and turning them into the League Coordinator.

The Sponsor Coordinator contacts the team sponsor to provide them with a schedule of the teams games, invite them to picture day, and keep them up-to-date on their team's standing. Remember, at times an invite to the team party will produce an offer to sponsor in a coming season.
