Cove Rangers FC: Club History


1922 - Cove Rangers founded and joined the Aberdeen Juvenile League.

1947 - Founder members of the Aberdeen Amateur Football Association, winning the first of 11 titles in 1947-48 season.

1948 - Purchased land from a local farmer, Mr Allan. First amateur side in Aberdeen to own their own ground.

1953 - Entered Scottish Amateur Cup in 53-54 season and reached the final before losing 1-0 to Royal Technical College.

1964 - In the 1964-65 season Cove won the Championship without losing a game.

1981 - After avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth, former player Alan McRae, the current club president appointed manager.

1984 - Won the coveted Aberdeen FC trophy for the 15th time. Became first Aberdeen amateur team to open their own Social Club.

1985 - Joined the Junior ranks and won Division 2 title in first season. Applied to and accepted into the Highland Football League.

1986 - Joined HFL with Tommy Cummings as Manager

1987 - Beaten in Final of Aberdeenshire Centenary Cup by Peterhead

1988 - Dave Watson became Manager. Finished Runners-up in the HFL

1989-90 - Reached final of the Scottish Qualifying Cup North and lost narrowly to Elgin City 1-0. Lost 2-1 to Queen of the South in the 1st Round of the Scottish Cup.

1990-91 - Lost 2-1 in Highland League Cup final to Elgin City, but won the Qualifying Cup North and Aberdeenshire Shield, both against Fraserburgh and both by 1-0.

Played first Scottish Cup tie at Allan Park losing 2-1 to Cowdenbeath in the 3rd Round, missing out on a trip to Ibrox to play Rangers in the 4th Round.

1992-93- Beaten by Huntly in both the League Cup and Qualifying Cup finals on penalty kicks.

Beat Montrose in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Cup before losing to East Stirlingshire in a 3rd Round replay.

HFL runners up and defeated by Aberdeen FC in the Aberdeenshire Cup Final.

1993-94 - Lost again to East Stirlingshire in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Cup.

Dave Watson resigned as manager to join Peterhead FC.

Kenny Taylor, a former player, becomes boss.

1994-95 - Beat Lossiemouth on penalties to win the Highland League Cup.

Defeated Cowdenbeath in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Cup before losing to Dunfermline Athletic in 3rd Round.

Lost to Deveronvale and Huntly in the Aberdeenshire Shield and Cup Finals respectively,and were HFL runners up again.

1995-96 - Lost to Huntly in the League Cup Final, and were HFL runners up for the 3rd time in 4 years.

Kenny Taylor resigned as Manager.

1996-97 - Jimmy Wilson took over as Manager and resigned in mid August citing work pressures. Dave Cormie took over as Manager.

1997-98 - Lost to Elgin City in League Cup Final. Dave Cormie resigned in October 1997 and Aberdeen FC hero Doug Rougvie took charge.

1998-99 - Doug Rougvie and John Hewitt resigned as Manager and Assistant Manager.
Bob Summers, the current manager, joined soon after.

1999-00 - Won the League Cup at Keith by beating Elgin 4-3 after being 3-1 down at half-time.

Won the Aberdeenshire Shield beating Buckie Thistle 2-1 at Peterhead.

Beaten 2-0 by Peterhead in 2nd Round of the Scottish Cup.

Cove miss out on application to join the Scottish League to Elgin and Peterhead.

2000-01 : Cove become HFL champions, Qualifying Cup Winners, League Cup Winners and Aberdeenshire Shield winners in the same season.
