Corona Rolls to Huge PR's at Inland Empire Championships

Competing at the 8th Annual Inland Empire Championships, Corona High came home with more awards than ever before!  Under beautiful skies and a very nice venue at Glen Helen Regional Park, the conditions were perfect for running.  If our records are correct, EVERY athlete raced to a new personal record (p.r.)!!!  Well, to be fair - our athletes had some assistance.  The course was only 2.75 miles and somehow, someway - it was not measured correctly which accounted for some incredible times.  Regardless, the efforts were incredible and Corona came back home with four team trophies as our 9th and 10th grade athletes for both genders earned top three trophies!  We'll continue with our summary but here some highlights:

**Corona was the only school in Riverside County to have two freshmen boys under 15:45 and with a healthy Garrett Williams, we have three!  We were also the only team in the county to have two frshmen girls break 17:45!

**On the boys' side, we were the only school to have six underclassmen break 15:30 and again, we would have easily had seven (G.W.).  The next school only had four...  So, next year - we're looking very good for our return trip here in 2009!

**Jimmy Gauger ran the fastest time of the entire day for all Riverside County freshmen - leading our boys to a strong 2nd place finish (I warned our boys about Redlands East Valley freshmen boys that have NINE 9th grade boys under 16:00!!!!)

**Haley Bryzcki earned a 1st Team All-Riverside County patch and missed being the #1 freshman in the county by less than a second.  She easily earned 1st Team All-Freshman all-county honors.

**Alan Cuevas earned a 1st Team All-Riverside County patch with his awesome 11th place finish in the Sweepstakes Race.  He also earned 1st Team All-Junior all county.

**Desirae Santana just missed pulling off the victory with an incredible kick!  She settled for an impressive 2nd place in the Girls Freshman race.

**Despite getting tripped up by a broken board on a bridge early in the race, Michael Gauger managed to still run the fastest time in the county for all sophomores.

**Ashley Evans and Patrick Mynes earned a spot on the All-County senior teams while Julian Hernandez, Jimmy Gauger, and Desirae Santana earned All-County Freshman distinctions.
