5th Annual Red and Gold Meet 5th Annual Red and Gold Meet Want to learn a little about Cross Country? The TEAM with the lowest seeded #1 athlete rose to the top and ran away with the overall team title! This year's TEAM CHAMPS goes to the Multicolored Skittles, with great races turned in by Lorenzo Marquez, Garrett Williams, Malaysia Alexander, Scott Davis and Raistlin Hale! They were able to hold off the Greased Lightening, despite the impressive performances of Alan Cuevas, Fernando Cerda, Ryan Fierro and Desirae Santana! But Hale's performance closed the door on the close 82 to 87 victory!
OVERALL TEAM SCORES: For some awesome pictures put together by our staff photographer, Mr. Gauger, click onto http://flickr.com/photos/mg_dad/ When reviewing the results, our overall team depth compared to 2007 is eye-popping! Last year, the 25th overall finisher across the line was at 17:32! This year...16:10! Last year, we had one boy break 13:15 - this year, we had four! In 2007, we had five boys break 14:00 - this year, 9th place ran a 14:00! We had 18 boys break 17:00 and here in 2008, we had 29 boys do it! Overall, in 2007 we had 23 athletes break 17:00 and 35! On the girls' side, we ran faster than last year's top seven! In 2007, our #5 girl ran a 17:21 and this year, our 8th fastest girl went 17:23! Last year, we had 12 girls break 19:40 and this year, #19 went 19:40! Who turned in the most improvement from 2007? On the boys side, in a landslide - Angel Pineda! Angel went 19:11 last year and this year, he went 14:10. It goes to show you what a year can do. Lorenzo Marquez improved from 16:34 - 13:38! Jonathan Erickson also improved from a 19:25 to a 16:06! On the girls side, Angelica Castagna ran 23:00 in 2007 and came in with a 19:40 here in 2008. Rachel Ruiz ran 22:05 and finished with an 18:56 this year! Alexxis Martin finished #6 overall for our girls while improving by 85 seconds (18:23 to 16:59). April Lawson also improved dramatically in going 21:51 to a 19:33 this year! Who made the greatest jump from the 1.5 Mile Time Trial to this race? The honor goes to freshman Scott Davis who was #30 at the time trial and our #20 boy today! Teammate Raistlin Hale was right behind him going from #31 to #22. Together, the were the true reasons why their Skittles squad claimed the victory! For the girls, actually - the greatest moving up of slots went to senior Brieanna Pantele. After finishing 11th at the last time trial, we finished 4th on the girls' side today.
