Panthers Faster than the Mustangs!

Under nice conditions at Harada Heritage Park in the young community of Eastvale, Corona easily cruised to victory on all four levels.  Known for its extreme winds in that part of Northern Corona, athletes were spared as we competed on the same course we'll run on for the 2007 Mountain View League Finals (in three weeks).  Only in its 2nd year, Roosevelt has already impressed us by putting together some fine talent that will improve in leaps and bounds over the next season.

The true highlight of the day was to see Ashley Evans racing for the first time here in 2007.  In testing the strength of her healing ankle, she looked great the first mile and simply jogged easily the last half of the race.  Freshman Christina Ledesma stepped in there to be #1 for our girls, in finishing 2nd overall.  In route to an easy 20-43 victory, freshmen Alexxis Martin, Elizabeth Ortiz and April Lawson closed out the scoring for our girls' squad.  Ledesma looked great, especially when you consider the track workout she did the day before!  Meanwhile, on the JV level, our girls won automatically since Roosevelt did not field a squad.

On the boys' side, most of our varsity boys did an awesome workout on the track on Tuesday.  This race was nothing more than a "hard run."  Going into this with dead legs, they were also awakened to find themselves losing a mile into the race!  Scared, they had to react to the circumstances - and that they did!  Coach Gardner's #1 goal was to use Wednesday to help prepare these boys for CIF.....being tired and a little scared is exactly what they will experience in November!  Raul Arcos went on command mid-way through the race and cruised to the victory.  Patrick Mynes went right along with him and passed two Roosevelt athetes also mid-way through the race.  Alan Cuevas came from way behind to finish with Patrick as our boys ran a great 2nd half of the race to win 23-36.  Keep in mind that Roosevelt will, most likely, finish 3rd place in the league.  Chase Williams and Fernado Cerda closed out our scoring.  We also sat out Michael Gauger to let him heal from dental surgery on Monday.  Imagine what our boys will do at league finals on much fresher legs?  Our JV boys easily cruised to the win as an automatic victory was also in order.

Keep in mind that our CIF group is putting several tough weeks here in preparation for November.  At this point in the season, we have different training plans depending on when the season will conclude for the variety of athletes that we have.

We do not race until the Mt. SAC Invitational next weekend!  Thanks to all of the parents that came to support the athletes.  A good number of athletes did not race and their parents were still there!  That was awesome to see...
