What do our fees pay for?
Fees pay for items such as:
Uniforms, insurance policies, umpire fees, field items (safety bases and pitching plates ), major equipment such as pitching machines, minor equipment such as bats and catchers gear, clerical items like printing expenses, tournaments, banner, ads, flyers, instructional pitching clinics (a CYS sponsored pitching coach).....and of course this web site.
I might be interested in coaching, but I’ve never coached before or I’m not very experienced at softball. Is this a problem?
No problem! If you have patience, integrity, love kids, and want to help the community, those are the qualifications we’re looking for! We can teach you how to organize a practice and how to instruct softball skills. Please see a CYS Board member during registration to learn more about applying for a coaching opportunity.
How can I help? What volunteer positions are still needed to help out teams?
CYS is made up entirely of volunteers and we could use as much help as you are willing to lend. At the first team meeting, your manager will be asking for volunteers to help as “Team Parent”, scorekeeper (except Tee Ball). field grooming, and other duties as needed. Please step forward and help out. All families on all teams will have a time during the season where they will help on a 2-3 hour shift at the snack bar. At least one member of a family is expected to participate.
What does a Team Parent do?
The team parent is the liaison between the manager and the other parents. The team parent helps with the distribution of uniforms when they come in and helps coordinate "picture day". The Team Parent also makes scheduling arrangements for parents to take turns bringing after-game refreshments. In addition, the manager may make other requests, such as asking the Team Parent to make phone calls to remind players of practice times, arrange rides to away games, etc.
When is the playing season for CYS?
The League runs two seasons each year: Spring Ball and Winter Ball. The Spring season gets underway in early March and ends about mid- May. At least 15-20 games are played during this session of play. Winterball consists of around 10 games in a season that runs from right after Labor Day up until just before Thanksgiving. Winter Ball consists of double headers played on Sundays.
Is a “try out” required?
There are Player Evaluation days in January where all of the girls’ skills are assessed. Girls in all divisions except T-Ball are required to participate in order to ensure that evenly balanced teams are created in each division. See more information in the “How are teams formed?” question to follow.
How are teams formed?
In the upper divisions (8U, 10U, 12U and 14U), players are selected through a draft to ensure evenly skilled balanced teams. This means that the girls are assigned to teams based on their skill level. In the lower division (T-Ball), there is also great effort made to keep the teams evenly matched.

How many games are played in a normal season?
For Spring Ball, it’s about 15 to 20 games not counting playoffs. For T-Ball, there are approximately 10 games.
Where are the games played?
The 8U, 10U, 14U divisions Home games are played at the Tidelands Park Field #2; the 12U division home field is Bradley Field; and the T-Ball Division plays all games at Sunset Park. The upper divisions also travel to other neighboring leagues’ facilities for games.
My child must play for a specific coach or friend for carpool reasons. Will that be a problem?
No league can guarantee that a child will play on a specific team and CYS is no different in this regard. In the upper divisions (8U, 10U, 12U and 14U), players are placed on teams through a draft to ensure evenly-skilled teams. As a result, the League cannot make guarantees as to who will be on your child’s team
With T-Ball an effort will be made to accommodate requests, but again, in an effort to maintain balance teams, there are no guarantees.
My child had very little experience and/or is smaller than kids her age. Can she be placed in a lower division than her age/birthday would otherwise i
As a rule, “playing down” is not allowed except for safety issues. Most smaller and less experienced players catch on very quickly during the season. Most parents, in retrospect, would agree that the need to have their kids play down might not have been as urgent as they originally thought. Additionally, a player electing to play down would not be eligible for All Stars.

My child has a lot of experience and is a very skilled player. Do you field an advanced team or All Star team?
We do not field a separate team consisting solely of advanced players. Instead, these players are distributed evenly throughout the teams in each division. Some players can request permission to “play up.” Such permission is at the CYS Board’s discretion and is based on player skill, safety and the number of players available for both affected divisions.
We do have a very active All Star program that begins immediately after the regular Spring Season and can last throughout the summer.
How are the All-Stars players picked
This is covered in the Rules and Regulations Document found in the Handouts section. Bascially the coaches and players vote for players within their division who have requested their name be placed nomination. Requesting nominaton requires the parent/player agree to the all star assessment fee and the tournaments' schedule dates.
